Hey guys,

Just ordered my self a VE SS, hopefully getting it in a couple weeks.

Anyway just wondering what mod's are a must do? and should i get the car tuned straight away?

Also now i've heard different things about how to wear in a new engine? some say hammer it and others say drive like miss daisy.......whats the best way to wear it in.

Due to buying the car in Perth and living 1200km's north of Perth, it may yet have a 13 hour drive on it's first day in my hands.......yet to decide what to do.

Cheers :)

For the first trip back home don't sit ont he same speed for too long; load it up on hills where you can; and shift between gears every know and then to alter revs and therefore loads...

Holden suggest not using cruise control for a short while (can't remember exact distance)...

Plenty of info on here, search is your friend, everyone has a different opinion so weigh up the pros and cons of all your options.
Lots of threads on wearing in engines too.

Dont be gentle but dont be to harsh either. You want plenty of combustion pressure to help seal those rings. Dont rev it say above 5k but dont labour it down low in the revs with too high a gear.

Now If it was me but Im a stickler for this stuff, I would get home and drop the oil out of the engine and change the filter, then again @ 3k then again @ 7k all with good quality mineral oil, then after this move to a good synthetic oil like the Nulon 15W-50 etc.

Slotted Rotors with Performance pads HP Fluid and braded lines. First... Do not pass go... The brakes are rubbish on these things, I have found out by experience. The brakes boil just looking at them.
After that OTR, Exhaust, Tune and a heavy right foot. Enjoy. Oh and the clutch is rubbish too if its a manual (seems to stick to the floor alll the time).

As has been said, try not to sit at a constant speed for the first 1000 klicks if you can help it.

As for driving it hard, there is just one rule of thumb that I go by and that is wait till the engine is at normal operating temp before flogging it, then drive it like you stole it.

How come u didnt buy it from karratha

Moxham Motors are a bunch of twits (can think of much nastier words for them!), one SS there 43k for a manual with window tinting, the $39,990 included everything (like dealer del, s/duty etc) for a manual according to the Holden website but they tried telling me that it costs 3k to have window tinting?!! Guy couldn't justify the price and wouldn't order another one in, which the other dealers in Perth would, told me "if i wanted a new one ordered i had to pay and it wouldn't be cheap so it's this one or no one"

They also would not move a cent off that price, dealer in Perth ordered me a brand new one from the factory with heaps more extras for 42k plus it's a 6spd auto which is 2.5k alone! so i think i done alright out of it.

So told him to stick it up his arse and went to Perth :)

Mind you, know someone who bought an SS through them earlier in the year and the boot got damaged. Guy turned up to pick the car up and was told it was at the panel beaters! Wouldn't replace the boot because it was too much effort....very long story but cut short after many hours of argument they got him in a new car.

Sorry bout the rant but it shitted me off, trying to do the right thing buying locally but you get shafted.
