Hey everyone just seeing what people think i should go for out of the following.
I work in a caryard so i get cars for wholesale price and ive aready got the loan approved for the clubby and find out Monday about the GTS but that should be fine, now the two cars are as follows.
HSV VY GTS 300KW 2002, First reg 2003. Auto, 80,000kms, dark green, untouched and absolutely immaculate, brand new tyres etc.
$27,500 to the yards door just need rego. Insurance $1,300 a year and insured for $34,900
OR
HSV VY II CLUBSPORT R8 285KW 10/03 MODEL, Auto, purle (cosmo) 100,000kms, looks stock minus a dvd player, clean car.
$22,500 to the yards door just need rego and insurance is $1,300 a year and insured for $29,800
Im thinking the GTS because how rare they are and it has 20,000kms less and will hold its value more. The difference is $5,000 which is only gonna be $25 per wk extra which isnt much.
What do u guys think and does anyone know how many 4door VY GTS's were made?

Mate are you intersted in the car maintaining value cause neither of those will, sorry but its the truth.

If you can get a GTS Coupe then maybe you're ona winner.

So my advice to you is get a 06 SS for around the 28k mark these days and your laughing otherwise there's some extraordanary drive away deals on V8's at the moment.
Cheers and happy motoring

nah not so worried bout that i can always sell it through the yard if i ever wanna sell it and get a bit more for it, not many cars hold value only old school ones but the gts would hold its value a bit betta then the clubby and be a nicer car overall wouldnt it?
How many gts were there made?

i work in a caryard mate not a mechanics so unfornatually cant help ya. If it wasnt for the kms on the gto id consider that but since its my daily and gunna have it for atleast 2yrs i think it would be easier if i had to sell a car when im ready to get a house, which i hope i wont have to do but if i did it would be something like 140,000-160,000 on the gto compared to 100,000-120.000 on the gts therefor i think would be easier to sell and i wanna be able to get somewhere around 300rwkw which ive herd in the c4b gts is only a tb, cam, full exhaust, otr intake and a mafless tune due the the c4bs head etc, were to get that in a 260kw gto would cost more. Ive always wanted a gto or gts just seems that the gts would fit what im after more at the moment would u guys agree?

Get a manual if your thinking of resale value.... And it will be more fun.

yeh id love a manual but they dnt come up very often and i dont wanna pay the 35k for the only manual gts i could find in the whole of aus. 27k is alot less so for that i can cop an auto and ive had a pretty quick dun up wrx that was a manual with a big fmic that was a pain to take off all the time around town with the big fmic and clutch so it will be a gud break for a bit then ill want another manual again down the track.

A couple of mods and you'll prbably find your up for a trans rebuild (good luck) or manual conversion. Would'nt recommend an auto unless it was used only as a luxury car.

not sure weather this one has this but didnt they come out with an optional stronger auto trans in the 300kw gts i think i read it on hsv.com.au
How much are trans ruffly if one went?
And can u get them strengthened?
im getting a 5yr extended warranty for $300 (cost price) they retail for $1495 and that covers up to $2,500 on trans, diff, motor etc and i get unlimited claims.

The stronger trans has it's own weak points.
Anywhere from about $2500-$4500 fitted Depending on how much work is done to them and what size stall convertor you go for. Some warranties are'nt worth the paper they are written on so I would'nt bank on them.

im not worried bout the warranty the yard i work for gives the most business to our warranty company then any other private yard in the city so they wont try and screw me over i know that for a fact or they will loose all cusiness to our yard plus the state manager i know quiet well.
Anyone know how many gts were made in vy's?

07-12-2008, 08:28 AM
There were only 20 built in 04, 8 were auto's, but thru 04-05 there were 88 in total.
And I'm pretty sure they had the c4b callaway enhanced engine.
BLACKVE

Mate if you go the GTS just check if motor has been fixed up C4B engines have spat of cam/lifter problems causing engine rebuilds.
Do a search as there are many horror stories here.
Out of the 2 i'd go the GTS hate cosmo colour
Best of luck!!!!

I'd go the GTS for sure.. But not in a Bloody Auto. That's sacrilege. If you have to have an Auto cause you can't drive or something.. Go a Senator. More fruit than a GTS

I don't know why there is a comparison here... There is no choice for that price. I paid closer to 40 for my GTS and it's insured for 45. If you're getting one for 27, you don't need to worry about resale, you've already got a 10k head start. Mines auto, nothing wrong with it, it still gets up and goes, I do agree that they should have all been manuals though. They were all fitted with the stronger auto, but still 4L60e, so pretty weak. My auto blew the day after I got it and my warranty covered a brand new box, so you shouldn't have any problems there.
As mentioned, look at changing valve springs and the can straight up as the C4B will not likely make it to 100,000 kms
There were 100 4 door Y series made to answer your question too.

can u strengthen an auto easily? And what does it take, cost?
Vulture
07-12-2008, 09:35 AM
GTS for sure, not to mention a nicer colour.

There are a huge amount of strengthening bits out there for these boxes now plus you can also buy a brand new 4L65 from Holmart (the stronger version of the 4L60) for $1900.

GTS hands down... If I had a choice between a used VE SS and a VY GTS i'd probably still take the GTS. As long as its been maintained well and not thrashed it will be a wonderful car to have. Seeing they were close to 100k new its certainly good value, when you consider the level of interior trim, handling options, 6pot brakes, premium suspension... it really has the works.

Series 1's were limited to 100. Series 2 were on an order only basis. I believe there was only 20 produced. These were the ones with the Ohlin's suspension as standard.
The auto should be fine for a stock car. Mines making around 370rwhp, which is why it went up in smoke. They do cost a bit to make them handle bulk power though. I believe the 4L65e is a better option dollar for dollar.

GTS for sure. think about how many clubsports are driving round these days, not to mention how many cars are done up to look like them. IMO the vy GTS is probably the best looking HSV to date as well. One thing that annoys me about owning a vy clubby is that every second car I see is one, or a v6 fakesport, when i see a GTS im like wow THAT was an awesome car.
VY's were also IMO the last of the cool GTS's the ve now is just a little bit more expensive clubby. with the same power... but weighs more... back then tho. they were in a class of their own of coolness haha
Id also wait for a manual unless you want to pay the 5 k and have the hassle of changing it over so much better driving experience

I agree completely. The VY GTS was the last of the real GTS's. The VE GTS is more of an R8. Don't rate them at all.

Get the GTS if You can, the Auto will more than likely be ok.
You will however need to change the valve springs and hope the cam is ok, almost all of the C4B engines that have been stripped down or had a cam change done on them have had problems.
Don't let that sway Your choice though, You'll only be making it alot better package.
There was 100 series 1 GTS 4 doors and series 2 where order purchased, so maybe it was only 88 as stated earlier.
btw, mine is insured for 60k. {agreed}
Cheers.

Thanks everyone for your input.. I'm on a few different forums for alot of things not just cars and everyone on here seems very welcoming and helpful.
If all goes well i will hopefully be posting up in the MY RIDES section towards the end of the week or over the weekend with my new car :)
Hate my life.. they will only approve me for $24,000 so im $4,000 short of getting the gts so will have to settle for the VY II Clubby for $21,000 a year or two then get my dream car, a vz gto. I guess $30 less a wk repayments but still pretty devo if they both wernt going up for auction tomorrow morn i could organise to get the extra but i just dont have the time to..
