Been drag racing a couple of times but found something better!!!!

Just completed a Speed Event and Hill climb at Bathurst.

Speed event started at the dip on Conrod straight thru the chase and finished at the start line on pit straight.

Took my VE ute, full exhaust and tune + tein suspension, shifter, nothin else, no big brakes, no cam, toyo T1R on front Kumho ku31 on rear.

Had a great time, first time ever out and held my head proud for the commodore brigade. 3rd in class day one and 4th day two. The car that won the class was a new Evo and 2nd (and 3rd for second day were two stripped out group n race cars).

Slowly pushed harder each day to the point that I held it flat into the kink and saw just over 220 before hitting the skids.

Overall ranked 30 day one beaten by high powered skylines, rx7's and dedicated club cars. Most of these were running competition tyres and big brakes.

Was so much fun having to pick your brake points, the size of your balls and lines around the track.

If you have never done it I would highly recommend it.
Probably cost a bit of $400 for 2 days racing but that included club and cams membership.

Same event will be run in May next year. trust me and put it onto your must do list.

Do have some vids but I need to get with technology and figure out how to post. Make take 6 months.

now now Macca , fighter planes dont count.:)

Sounds like fun but maybe he should take a few runs in a genuine 8 sec car and see how his balls hold, at least he is holden proud.

Ahh common. I tell you what you take me for a spin in that beast of yours and I'll let you know how they compare.

I'm surprised that's the portion of the track they let you race on, plenty of speed there!

0:54 is a bit of a brown stain moment - well done!

Nice work mate, nothing more exciting than track work. I wouldn't say Drags is for whimps, unless your really good at it

You need some nice big HSV brakes...Looks like fun though.

The standard brakes did a great job as only had to jump on them two times every 1.5 hrs.
Thought you would like my moment!!!!

Was so funny - I am man - shouldn't try for two things at once - commentating and driving.

Will try and put up a couple more tonight.

Thats seems a giveaway...however when you talked about every 1.5 hours, did you just get to run that little section of the track once every 1.5 hours? If so...then there probably are better value track days

Imagine if they opened the track over the top, now that would be fun

Had 7 runs over 8 hours Saturday
4 runs on Sunday
Sunday went from the Dunlop sign at the crest of mountain straight up to McPhillamy Park.
Will post that one tonight.
I agree that time could have been used a little better, but when are you gonna get a chance to run Bathurst legally.

Wow thats unreal. Good on you for giving it a go mate. $400 is an absolute bargain IMO, my missus forked out the same for me to do 11 laps at Winton, but I was told its a reduced course.

BTW drag racing is good fun and a safe venue for testing and tuning.

Done well pulling out of the slide. Most would of lost it and slammed the wall. Have to say well done.
The tread title is a bit out though IMO. People like different things.

????? Don't understand.... 6800 at 3rd = 170 ... 238 in 4th at limiter. Standard ratio diff

Bathurst Light Car Club held the event. You must be a member of a club and Cams S2 licence. go to BLCC.com.au

I admit the title is a bit rough. But its alot more involved when braking markers, understeer and gear selection on the downshift come into it. I have been drag racing before but I walk away disheartened by all the 10 / 11 sec animals out there. If you stuff your start on the strip the whole lot is over, at least here you can push your luck and brake later to try to make up some time.

Much respect for the drag boys - but I reckon this was much more fun.

Sounded like it was revving pretty hard sounded good. 6800 is high for a stocker

TIR33D
09-12-2008, 07:53 PM
tuned by Sam, I agree 6800 is high but it puts me on top of the torque curve next gear.

Will do a cam and springs at least by the next one.

I could also do with a shorter ratio diff but living out in the sticks I like to economy to much.

Well done mate...good to see you out there enjoying your car...so who do I contact to do such an event?

I looked into this a while ago to. I had to join a car club to get the LS2 cam's license and that was pretty much it. I joined Manly Warringa Sporting Car Club. Thats all there was to it really. Oh, I think you need to buy a blue triangle to show battery location, a fire extinguisher and a couple other little things which are on the forms.

had a technical issue------- my masking tape failed have the start, and down into caltex chase but camera slipped at that point. I do have the run from s13 which was his fastest and mine for the day. will post ok.

Besides I am not gonna be pround of a hairdryer beating me, Especailly on a holden site.........geez...

YouTube - ve v8 v's s13 (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=FDjatZ62OqA)

fastest sprint run although beaten by a whizz bang

Considering he was running semi slicks I think my braking efforts were top notch.

Who took the photo?????

The s13 had about 190rwkw! weighs bugger all though - 1100 I think?

Got some decent suspension and tyres! great chassie on them!

even considering selling my r33 to get one now! hahah

Well i just thought i would say g'day to the Ls1 boys and its me with the S13.

Firstly a big g'day to Phil!!! Mate love your ute... if i had the $$$ the VE SS Ute would be my daily... but yet i succum to a VY exec daily :(
Was awesome to meet you and have the pleasure of running side by side with you. Man your ute sounds hot down Conrod!!! Glad i kept my driver window down for our run. ( also came in handy for the apology wave after my little 'incident' thru the chase :) )
I too was quite surprised how well the little silvia went for only its second outing.... for something that was running low boost (about 180-190rwkw) it liked to get off the line well. Keeping a lot of bigger HP cars honest. But then as mentioned it weighs a lot less than the most other cars out there.
Odd thing was my PFC was reading a top speed of approx 170km/h down conrod which i thought was odd... but was assured by other drivers it certainly was a lot quicker than that.

Overall it was an awesome event and I encourage anyone with the itch to give ita go!!

P.S. Phil - Thanks or the freebies, much appreciated... :goodjob:

Yeah, well done S13Deviat. Look forward to running with you as well at the next event.
And this time i don't intend on missing 2nd gear!

But well done to you and the S13. Definently keeps the big HP cars honest!
