Hi guys I need to spray the exhaust gloss black on my baby Aprilia SR 50 Factory. It's a Leo Vince aftermarket exhaust which was on it when I purchased the bike. I went to Supercheap to purchase some heat resistant paint and the best they had was this ...

It's good up until about 650ºC. It also states that it needs to cure at 150ºC or baked at 200ºC for 30 minutes. I was hoping to just take the exhaust off and spray a few coats on it and then put it back on once it has dried overnight. I will also be spraying it all the way up to where it joins to the engine.

Now what I really wanted was this ...

Should I take the one I brought back and go to somewher like Repco and pick up the VHT paint as it's good to about 815ºC (1500ºF). Or will the one I have purchased be good enough for the job?

My bike hits 9,000 RPM's daily and sits on over 7,000 RPM's (cruise speed @ 70kph) for extended periods daily also.

I will be removing for painting and will use a wire brush to clean it first and then I will go over it with some Septone Rust Converter which I have also purchased to finish it off.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I have never attempted something like this before and I don't want to fu*k it up :eyes:

I am going to do this Saturday. Here is what it currently looks like....

I wouldn't expect two stroke exhausts to get anywhere near as hot as four stroke exhausts so I'd think you'll have no trouble with the lower heat rating. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get hot enough to cure properly.

Surely worst case if you mess it up is to get out the paint stripper and have another shot?

Unfortunatly I can't log into that site as it's restricted :(

Hmmm food for thought, although I'm seriously considering swapping to the VHT paint just in case. Does anyone know the operating temps that this thing may run close too?

VHT have a great hi temp paint with many colour options, you can get it at Autobarn or Supercheap Auto type stores ...

Go the good paint for the extra bit of money. You don't want to be repainting the thing for the sake of a few extra bucks.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up painting it with the paint I initially purchased. Although I believe it will need a respray in the next 6-12 mnths. My mate and I have decided once it starts to come off and need to be fixed we will get them sandblasted and HPC coated. I may be selling it in the near future and moving up to a real motorbike so it may be fine as is until then.
