Hi All,

Need some advice preferably from a detailer or someone who knows a fair bit about detailing.

Got my Calais last year with the paint protection from Fifth Dimension, from McGrath Holden here in Sydney.

Firstly what do fifth dimension do when they put the paint protection on the car? does anyone know what products they use?

Also, because they offer lifetime warranty with their product, I am reluctant to use any other products on the car just in case I void the warranty.

I have noticed a fair bit of tar marks from the road that are hard to get out, bit of soap and a finger nail usually takes it out but there is a fair bit of it now that it would take me for ever to do.

Is there anyway I can use a product to remove this without voiding warrrenty.

Also would be interesting to know what process Fifth Dimension use to protect the paint on the cars.

PS, how much does it frustrate people when little stones chip the paint on the bumpers and leave black marks!! I have a white VE and under the white paint looks like a black bumper, really wish i know of a way to fix this!!

Dont know what Fifth Dimension use but generally paint protection is a polymer sealer which outlasts waxes. In your warranty wording you have conditions that you need to abide by to keep the warranty current such as annual inspections and only using a detergent that they specify. Read it carefully and abide by it to keep the warranty. Fifth Dimension will tell you what to use, prob Tar and Bug remover, kero works quite well as well. Paint sealers are harder than waxes but dont use your finger nails as they will cause scratching. Bad washing techniquies will also scratch. Join a detailing forum for more in depth information such as detailparadise.com.au. Good site with heaps of info if you want to go down that path. I am not a professional detailer but have been detailing some expensive paintwork for nearly 30 years. Hope this helps.

Might be best to get this moved to the "car care" sub-forum, as that's where all the detailing gurus post up.
