View Full Version : LPG Fuel - Which Brand is your Favourite for Power/Economy

Prior to having the Liquid LPG fitted recently I new little about LPG fuel stations or the differences between the different brands.

So far after refuelling many times ( due to the small tank size and constant work ) I have found that my favourite stations in Sydney are the BP Heathcote Rd, Moorebank and my local Caltex Servo which uses Vitalgas.

The car seems to be more throttle responsive and the klms travelled is as good or better than other stations around Sydney.

I know there are lots of factors ( gas mix, heat/cold,inconsistent pump filling etc ) but I have filled up at these stations at all different times of day/night and found these stations are good for me.

Anyone else with the liquid gas/vapour systems found that they have there stations that are constantly giving them a little edge over the rest ?

In Sydney after maybe going to 40-50 different stations I have found 2 stations ( both BP ) that will not fill my car at all.
I have been back to both stations in the last few days and they both still will not fill tank. ( For what it is worth maybe I should let BP know if they are interested )

Be good to hear any comments from LPG uses ?

Mike

I am also very interested in this thread and differences in the LPG used in different stations. I have heard many "stories" about adders etc.. and would like any hard information anyone has as well on this.

Just another thought does LPG suffer from a use by date and sludge (or what ever it is called) in the tanks ?

Supagas Propane, each and everytime. I can't tell any diffrence between any of the LPG from servos, after 3500kms of highway driving they all feel "flat" under WOT compared to Supagas (no i don't work there nor have any assosiation with them).

As for power, i hope to shortly get some dyno runs of supagas vs servo's lpg to backup my seat of pants feel result. Economy the Calais shows no diffrence worth telling, this may be because of the design of my right foot?

This economy question poped up on a british LPG forum a year or so ago, one of the installers on there commented that a butane/propane mix (what our servos sell) will give the best economy results. I think its the JC forums, the people on there who tried straight propane said otherwise......

G'Day,

Is Supagas only available in Victoria ?

Searches seem to indicate that in NSW Supagas is only bottled, commercial type sales.

What brand service stations is it sold at in Melbourne ?

Would like to try it sometime.

Hi, i get my gas from Supagas Bayswater, they have lpg pumps there you can fill up from, generally 2 - 5c/litre cheaper than the servos too :) . IIRC all of the Victorian branches have them. Maybe try ringing the NSW branches and see? I'll ask when i pop in tuesday or wednesday to refuel but i think you can only get supagas from supagas themselves....

This thread is a great idea Mike.:goodjob:

I'll be watching this thread with interest. I haven't noticed any appreciable difference in the fuels I have used (including Woolworths). But I am off to WSID on Wednesday night... so hurry up okay! :jester:

Danielsan, I am sure you are right about propane/butane ratios being the determining factor, interestingly these ratios are not advertised to the consumer in the same way that the composition of petrol is gauranteed & advertised.

Cheers guys

Chris.

It all comes back to refinery/primary source. Anyone who has followed any of the brand A is better than brand B petrol threads will have realised that most of the fuel in any given state comes from one or two refineries and the fuel is created by simply mixing the appropriate additive/aromatics to create brand A or B.

Where does LPG come from - one common source or multiple? Once you have the answer to that then you can proceed down the supply chain and determine if brand A is different to brand B.

Any LPG tanker drivers on here who can provide insight?

Sounds like danielsan and the people in Victoria may be the only ones who can get the 100% Propane from Supagas.

I sent a email to Supagas in Sydney but they are on holidays for a week or so but it looks like most of their lpg outlets are in Victoria.( South Aust and Tasmania )

Maybe their is another small company somewhere that supplies stations with 100% propane that someone uses and can let us know about !!

As suggested it would be interesting to hear from any LPG TANKER DRIVERS on here who can fill in some info.

What does IIRC stand for in Victoria ? Maybe they trade under other names in the other states !!

Chris- Good luck at WSID Wednesday night. Must sound good now with all the exhaust/headers done and tuned.
Have you moved the IAT sensor forward ?

i have gas in my rodeo and have been running it for years
i used to notice that i could fit less in and go up to 30 k's more per tank when i filled with shell
i run the tank empty nearly every time so it should be the same to refill
at caltex or mobil i can fit 67 liters in the tank
at shell or bp i can only fit 63 liters
i don't seem to notice the beter economy from shell any more
but do notice that on odd ocations i get about 30 k more out of a tank form one of the indapendants (must be when they get a new load in)
