Actually GM saved itself a lot of heartache by giving it the axe. It would have just sat around in dealerships and not sold many.

I would have thought a G8 (sport)wagon would have been a better fit for pontiac.

Sad news. I was watching TV and the red rooster add came on with a guy interviewing Americans and he asked if the American would know where to get roasted chicken and if he would like to win a ute. The American replies "a what, a ute?". And the slogan of the add campaign was Americans just don't get it. Then straight after the add the news comes on and G8 ST is canned. Coincidence.........

Ute's aren't very popular over here. If you said, what do you think about a car like the el camino, most people would know what you meant. but the word "ute" is not used here. The whole niche for utes is tiny over here. People just get trucks instead if they need a bed.

I agree that "ute" is an Aussie term änd they should have stuck a Chev badge on it and dug up the El Camino nameplate. I was really hoping to see what the after market/customizer guys would do with it over there.

i think it would have been confusing to sell the Commodore ute as a Chev when they have the sedan being sold as a Pontiac.

I had a strong gut feeling the ute would not make it here. Not my cup of tea. Love my G8. Alot. JW http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e332/jw1954/jw1954-2/JW1954-3/DSC_2423.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e332/jw1954/jw1954-2/DSC_2291_2.jpg
