Just wondering do you think this would be a good idea? Just to help the situation out in regards to threads going off topic, negative posts, etc. Select a handful of decent upstanding users give them basic tools to warn people and edit posts. Maybe not go as far as ban people but nominate to the higher powers that they receive a holiday... Keep a lid on abusive comments and stupid posts.
Maybe have suggestions for guys/gals within the Mods part of the forum and then put it to the members for a vote on who they want as member mods?

FYI We started having some discussions in December about some new blood for the Mod team so the rest of us can sit back and drink beer while they do all the work. Shouldn't be too much longer before the final decisions are made.

Mods on the site ATM do a good job as they dont pick sides nor favour one member over another AFAIK... (ive had a slinging match on many occasions with members, both them and I were banned for a period, fair result as apposed to one of us being targetted over the other).
The only issue i see with picking 'popular' members as mods is the tendancy for them to (maybe, i say maybe) favour those whom they get along with well or know on a personal level as apposed to making fair and rational decisions if and when a thread with a conflict/insult arrises.
Just my 2c.

It would be no different to the people who moderate now so imho i can't see it as being a problem.

In your opinion, you think the mods favour some over others?

In all walks of life people play favourites.....it's that simple!
I would however have no problem with whom they decide to go with!

Good point...Having said that, might be best for the new mods to be those who arnt always in the thick of things, and can remain inpartial when making decisions such as potential bans/edits etc etc..

Allot of our decissions need discussion from a few mods, we are to be impartial, taking sides and favoritism is a no no, at times it may appear we are 'looking after someone' but I can assure you, we dont do this.

Im sure whoever is selected will do a good job. The amount of Off topic posts and bitchiness is gradually getting higher and needs to be brought under control.

Got to say I agree with chappie, recently there has been so much shit fighting going on in posts its not funny
Whoever gets the job needs to be able to jump on these problems before they turn into 3 pages of crap and egos
...The amount of Off topic posts and bitchiness is gradually getting higher and needs to be brought under control...
Agreed.
I'll volunteer also.

I wasn't insinuating that the Mods do a bad job now, but its just like Police presence on the roads. If there is more around people tend to think twice before being stupid.
Being on peoples side isn't really something that happens now, they follow the rules and enforce them. If someone doesn't agree with them doesn't mean that the mods where wrong or on the other persons side just that the ruling didn't go in there favour.
I for one wouldn't want a mods position. 1) I'm not old enough, nor level headed enough, 2) I don't browse enough of the forum that I could facilitate a good view of whats going on & 3) Its a bastard of a job and you can put people off side which I can do all by myself. I would just rather enjoy my experience here.

I remember the last time a new bunch of mods were given the job. They were right onto it for a few months then IMO have eased up since they probably got sick of what was required. I'm not having a go BTW. Just thinking about solutions. Maybe implementing a rotation policy could keep up the interest or even trial periods for possible new candidates. Lots are very inactive and the job may need passing on. I might be way off. Just throwing around ideas.

Agree with that Stanger ... VERY good option.
I can't help but wonder if Macca wouldn't be all too sick of "moderating" people in his other life. :D

I think that you guy's are missing something here. What would this forum be without the following thread:

I'd like to see a review, say a probationary period of 3mnths. They are both quite knowledgeable on ls engines which is a trait much lacking with quite a few members lately.

1. Voodoo chose to leave. No Mod ever asked him to go. If he wants to come back he's more than welcome to email us to reopen his voluntarily suspended account.
2. Their actions following the initial suspensions guaranteed that dademon and OLS108 won't ever have their accounts reinstated. Most forum users weren't privvy to the mountains of rubbish that went on behind the scenes, but it was just ridiculous. I have no doubts their either or both are still on the forums under other usernames, but if they are they aren't causing the trouble they once did, which is a win win.

Mate I get the feeling you put up this whole thread because you got so offended over my post in that other thread? Something doesnt smell right. I think the moderators do fine. If you read things you dont agree with, as long as it wasnt a personal attack toward you, how about next time ignore them instead of quoting them which you now know might end badly. I always speak my own opinion and dont care if others are posting about shearing a sheep in the same thread, as long as they dont attack me they are entitled to their own opinion.
or does it bother you that much because duke5700 is really a 40yr old CIA agent fronting as a 25yr old ls1 enthusiast :jester:

I appreciate that you view my high level of tolerance, unbiased opinions, fairness and kindness to all fellow forum members with such high regard but I don't think I'm quite the right man for the job........After all I am a little homophobic and those Book Club meetings would be banned if I had my way as I don't believe promoting man on man sexual activity on a car forum is in the best interest of the wider forum community. :)
