Hey all,
Just thought I would share my experience at a Sydney Dealership...
See this car advertised:
http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/HSV/COUPE/dealer-results.aspx?Make=HSV&state_id=0&RegionID=&State=All%20States&N=4294965530+0+4294965570+4294897115++1216&distance=25&Model=COUPE&Region=All%20Regions
I called up asking about the car and said I was a collector and enthusiast. I asked all the normal questions such as:
- Condition of the car (internal and external)
- Any previous accidents
- Any damage
- VIN and engine number
etc etc.
I also asked if the price was negotiable. He was quite a smart arse and said no as there was only 25 built (which is true - limited number) and he said to bring the cheque book down as it was in immaculate condition.
He mentioned that the only thing anyone could fault it was a minor scratch on the front left rim. That was it. He said I would need to put a $500 holding deposit otherwise he would sell it straight away. I declined and said to please hold the car and I would definitely fly down the next day.
I organised flights for my mate and I and we came down first thing 7am in the morning.
The car was still there, however there was several faults and not as described :vpo:.
- Leaking sunroof (mould was torn half way round the sunroof)
- Bonnet has bog (need to lift and see in the sunlight)
- Front bar has been re-sprayed (sprayed straight over chips)
- B pillar inside door has sanding marks and sprayed over
- weld marks on both sides of roof!!! :vpo: Cut and shut car
- Rear boot (sanding marks and sprayed over)
- All rims have been resprayed in silver and completely rough (yes, one rim was scratched, but failed to say that the rims had been resprayed).
- Torn leather trim just under passenger side seat.
- Steering wheel worn and described as low kms.
We spoke to the salesman and manager and they were smart arses saying that they described the car how it was and they don't know what our expectations were. They said that everyone has different ideas of what a car will be like and said that what do you expect from a 4 year old car.
They said they hand picked the car on the lot and all have the holden certified warranty etc.
Wasted $1000 in flights between the both of us to see a piece of crap car. Had the bloody money ready to hand over and drive away. How do d*ckheads like this get away with it??? :flipoff:
Beware of this car... it's been in an accident and has a slap job repair!

He's a licensed dealer so maybe consider a complaint through either the MTA or the Office of Fair Trading, or both?

Definitely asked all those questions before flying down.
That's why I booked the first flight the next morning.
He said it was immaculate and it would suit the enthusiast.
"No accidents, 1 owner and the car was sold at this dealership"...
What a load of crap, I looked at the service book and said are you sure you sold this car in the first place??? Because it doesn't say that in the service book. He said, "oh my mistake, it's was serviced here only".
How are you supposed to put a complaint in??? It's all hearsay now.
Not sure if it's in South Sydney - register your interest in the car and you wil see who the dealer is.
We offered to speak to the original owner to see talk about the history of the car. Another manager came out and said that due to privacy laws he can't issue out the contact details. We said, we don't have to contact him, but we are sure you can and ask his permission to talk to us. They looked stunned and said that the previous owner probably wouldn't want to talk to us.... hmmm, yeah I wonder why.

I think you are very naive to believe salesmen will tell you the truth about a car's condition. It is in their interest to sell a car for the best possible price. Would you have flown to Sydney to inspect the car if the salesmen told you via phone the real condition of the car? I doubt it.

G'Day,
Yep, the stigma of the "USED CAR DEALER" is alive and well due to these types.:spew:
Do as others have suggested and follow this sort of practice through to the appropriate authorities.:vpo:

Maybe you could suggest to the dealership that they may wish to reimburse your costs given their lack of accuracy in the ad????? Can't hurt?
OR EXPOSE THEM for what they are! NAME THE DEALER???????

is there a requirement by law for a used car dealer to provide details of the previous owner???
They said that everyone has different ideas of what a car will be like and said that what do you expect from a 4 year old car.
lol 4 year old car?? thats not that old to be a completely trashed peice of shit.
but yes, buyer beware does come into it, regardless of what the dealers say. anything they say should be treated cautiousley. when i baught my car i kept asking them for the original books but they always had some excuse to not give them to me. probably trying to hide the fact it was an ex-cop thinking no one would buy it easily if they knew that was the case.

When I was looking for a house 9 years ago, I gave explicit instructions that ANY house I was shown MUST have at least a double lock up garage (no carports at all allowed), brick veneer and a lounge of suitably uniform shape for a cinema system.
Then I was taken to single garages, carports, long skinny lounges with hallways up the middle, weatherboard houses, and many all round pieces of sh!t!
Part of life when big commissions are involved...

As Davo mentioned above Real estate agents & car salesmen are the lowest forms of life experienced by man kind. Never trust them & anything they tell you....can be treated like a grain of salt. most Ive dealt do not or understand the product there dealing or have a clue as that's what their taught. Because they are what they are....

Mate don't take this on the chin call them up and kick up a stink! I put a deposit on a VU SS ute about 1 year ago on the basis that if the car was fully functional and drove well i would purchase it after a weekend of driving it. The car was a bag of crap. Diff flogged, gearbox very notchy and the power was far from satisfactory for a LS1 compared to others i had driven.
On return of the vehicle i said i was not interseted in it and was told my finance was already approved so i couldnt get my deposit back. After many arguements it took a well worded letter to the general manager and the next day i recieved a phone call telling me a cheque was in the mail and many apologises for how i was treated.
To add to it two weeks later the used car manager no longer worked there:)
I was told my complaint was the last straw on the camels back

My Dad has done a bit of dealing with this particular dealership and the salesmen have been quite cocky and rude.
Dad purchased a VS Clubsport from there in 2001 or 2002 and wanted to trade it in back to them only a couple of years later. They told him it was worth nothing and no one wants them... Regardless of age, the car was immaculate, very low k's and there were similar or less respectable cars on the lot at the time. He went across the road and got a good trade in and deal on his current ute. He will never deal with that Holden/HSV dealership again.
Even so, from the sounds of this the quality of the salesmen and cars have dropped quite a bit lower!

its too bad that you had spent $1k on flights worser still returned back empty handed...
however, i am surprised given in this day we live there is so much access to a greater information..
You could have possibly called the Sydney based Ls1 sponsors and asked them information about the dealership and if they offerred any form Road worth check on the vehicle etc.. which might have cost $150 ..
one time helping a mate out, looked at ridiculously priced SS for sale -located in sydney. before even meeting the seller asked them to drive to holden dealership for a check up. spent $200 but saved $$$$ from purchasing a lemon...
So in away since you are an ls1 member it sux you got cheated-but there are options to avoid that...
Anyway all the best and hopefully you get the GTS coupe you want..--lovely cars:)

Different car but still shonky....
I believe the car listed on the Parkside Autos Dealership site is a mate of mines previous ride. VS GTSr.
It was bought new and always garaged at Curl Curl in NSW. He sold it with 38000km for $28000 about 3 years ago. At one stage it had a Ross supercharger on it but know one knew how to tune it so it was removed. Then he had the cam and heads done and it made 270hp at back wheels.
I almost bought it until he told me how the fridge that use to sit in front of it which was 2 yrs younger, had to be replaced because of the rust from the salt air. So he really didn't think the car was gonna be a forever car.
Now 3 yrs later it pops up in this yard for $84000 and it now wears the HRT Optimised sticker.
Someone is having themselves on.

yes, it is that dealership.
I couldn't ask any LS1 members as I was keen to buy it straight away. I have been looking for this particular for a while. That's why I bought tickets for the first flights in the morning.
I asked all the appropriate questions and all of them were answered decietfully. When you ask questions like:
1. Has the car ever been in an accident?
2. Has the body been resprayed anywhere?
... and you get answers like the no, never been in an accident and it's immaculate with the only fault anyone will ever pick is 1 single scratched rim is BS :vpo:.
BTW, if anyone knows someone selling one let me know.
The salesman was a cocky bastard who blantantly lied and tried to back peddle behind his manager who was also a cockhead. 'Holden Certified' - pigs arse.
Any enthusiast or collector who will go and see the car will see definitely see the dodgy cut and shut on the car. No wonder why the sunroof rubber was rooted and leaking. Failed to tell us that detail too - 'immaculate'.

How are you supposed to put a complaint in??? It's all hearsay now.
No it's not hearsay, it's direct evidence.
Merely e-mail or call both the Office f Fair Trading (NSW) and the MTA as they both have complaints receipt/handling mechanisms in place. Not much might come out of it, but for at least for a little while you'll get up the dealer and salesman's nose, and that would be a good thing would it not?
Also if the car yard is a Holden Dealership, I'd also be banging something into GMH by email, again if only for the annoyance factor.

'It wasn't me', man yells after Sydney shooting
AAP
January 09, 2009 05:14pm
* Double shooting in used car yard
* One dead, another shot in the neck
* Man denies it was him before fleeing
A MAN ran out of a western Sydney used car yard only moments after two shots were fired and told workers "it wasn't me" before driving off from a shooting that left one man dead and another in hospital.
Paramedics were called to Blaxland Road at Campbelltown about 2.45pm (AEDT) today after reports of two men being shot, the NSW Ambulance Service said.
"On arrival, a male thought to be aged in his 30s has been confirmed to be deceased as the result of a gunshot wound," an ambulance spokeswoman said.
The second man was not at the scene of the shooting when paramedics arrived, and was thought to have made his own way to Campbelltown Hospital, she said.

 Haha, good ol' Paul Wakeling Holden.
Back in 06 when I was looking to buy brand new VZ SV6 I went there and this old salesman came out, asked him what sort of deal they have for VZ SV6 as at that time the new VE just came out and they still had 6 brand new VZ SV6's in their stock so obviously they would be pretty keen to get rid of those VZ's asap you'd think but this guy replied was "best price we can do is $42k driveaway" and he would not budge and he didnt event want to take me to his office to work out the deal/negotiate/speak to his manager about it. The p**k didnt even offer me a test drive at that time. So I walked out and scored myself a low k's demo model from Suttons Rushcutters Bay for heaps cheaper than that and of course better customer service all around and no BS.
Paul Wakeling Holden would never get my business for a new/used Holden and yes they are my local Holden dealer. ( Their service dept. is ok though )

Cant agree with you there, there service is crap, just as a big of a joke as the sales people. i was 19 when i bought my first new car a vy 1 tonner and they pretty much told me i couldnt afford when they had no idea of my finiacials, same treatment looked down their noses at me as thought i was sh*t but when my old man went down with my cash they were over him like a rash. my brakes had a extremely bad squeak and after 10,000 kms in the car i was told the pads hadnt had enough time to bed in, and that was just one thing on a list of about 20 it took a coupke of letters to state and national managers to get looked after and once they realised i was complaininng that much they sorted it out quick smart. My advice to everyone would be stay well clear of them.

So far no probs with their service dept. All warranty probs fixed first time and no questions asked / no BS thrown back.
Same cannot be said about their HYUNDAI service department though, big big nightmare. Always taken mum's Getz there since bought brand new from them too but I've finally had it after 60000kms service. They spilled coolant all over engine bay and didn't clean it, few niggles reported (warranty) when I came to pick up the car their answers were "PROBLEMS NOT FOUND DURING SERVICE" and "WEAR and TEAR" -> so much for Hyundai 5 years/130000kms warranty. + rude service advisors and liars dare I could say......
Anyone else out there want to vent your frustation about Paul Wakeling Motor Group? LOL.......
