Hi Guys,

I am running 235 x 35 x 19's on my WK. What pressure should I be putting in these?

How hard is the suspension on these from the factory? I understand running low profiles increases the effect here, but boy do you feel the bumps on rough road.

With that sort of low profile...I think you'll find that nothing less than 38-40psi will do the job. If you run the tyre on low pressure the sidewalls will start heating up, degenerating, cracking etc. The lower the profile the more often you should check your tyre pressures.

The factory HSV tyre placard on my door says 35psi for 245/35/19s

I didn't on my last cheap set of tyres 245/35/19 and when they got deflated to put on new rims - the sidewalls were all cracked and rooted, a result of running them on lower pressure than advertised.

thanks for that. On the tyre says maixmum of 40, so might try that. I have gotten nearly 21K out of the tyres since i've had it, and it already had 25K on the clock when i brought it, but not sure how long the 19's were on it for.

They are hanook ventus. How may kms do you generally get out of low profiles? Obviously keeping them inflated to right pressure gets you longer life.

I think you will find that you are running the wrong size tyres for your car and they are under load rated, that is why you ride is so hard, because this tyre is not design to carry the weight of your stato, let alone legality issues. In most cases the tyre will fail prematurely, whether your sidewalls start cracking or belt seperation occurs.

235/35R19's generally are a 91 load rating, where the standard tyres are 95 or 94, depending on whether their 16" or 17" standard, but in some cases you can run slightly lower load rating than the original tyre is according to tyre placards.

Check your tyre placard located on the door jamb and that will tell you the minumum load rating you need to run, and if the tyre has a lower index than required than you need to change tyres.

You ideally need to run 245/35R19 which will give you the correct load rating (keeping in mind some tyres do vary in load rating even tough they are the same size) and a slightly higher sidewall which will give you a better ride. With these tyres generally around 40psi is the best pressure to run on this heavy car.

Any tyre shop should steer you in the right direction.

Cheers John:)

Much appreciated. I stand corrected they are 235/35/ZR19 91Y Rated.

I have 245/35/19 fk-452s and run 42psi in the front and 38psi in the rear, you will get better ride comfort running a split in pressures as your ride comes from the rear tyres.
As others have said theres not to much sidewall on a 35 profile tyre so not a lot of cushion.
Good luck chris

Holden has used both the 245/35 and the 235/35.

Planetdavo will jump on it for sure. The GTS I think had 245 pirelli, but the clubsport had 235 yoko's.

If anyone still has their original tyres on a VZ in an 18 you will find the original OE tyre actually didn't have a load rating on it.

Thanks guys. I am a little concerned about the legality issues of the incorrect load rating, I had not idea it was an issue. Am off to a tyre shop this morning to ask some more questions - would hate to be in a position whereby if something happened my insurance would not cover as they say my tyres are not legal.

I will see what they say and might end up with a new set of marangoni rubber that is correct load rating.

Thanks for all your feedback guys. Went to the tyre place this morning and had a chat to them and came away with new tyres. Ended up going for Sumitomo HTR ZIII's this time 19" 245/35R/93Y's which they told me are completely legal. Not a massive difference in handling from the hankooks but definitely a bit of improvement over rough roads. Cost me $1357 for all four sides fitted and balanced and with a front and rear wheel alignment.

i run 42 psi in most tyres no matter what :) just helps the handling alot, but on mega hot days 35+ i run 40 just to be sure.

Got the tyre place to dispose of them! I recently had a cleanup of all the bits and pieces i was keeping, so definitely wasn't bringing them home, even though they probably still had 1/4 tread left on them.

I run 38-40PSI in my Summo 235/40/18's so for 19's 40-42PSI seems right to me.:)
