View Full Version : Pricing questions. (Regular car service, tyres, etc).
Would check myself but need to know this as soon as possible.
1) How much is it for a normal car service (assuming no parts need replacing, no wheel alignment, etc) (Car: VZ Calais).
2) How much for a new set of tyres for a VZ Calais?
3) How often would you recommend a car being serviced?

Hey mate,
(1)For a basic service or a major????
i would not go above 400$ for a major service to be honest (i do all the services myself on my car and it adds up to about 170$ for a major service in parts). The basic service i do which includes the next things.
Oil
Oil Filter
Fuel Filter
Coolant change
Brake Fluid change
Power Steering oil Flush and change
Plugs and leads
Gearbox filter and oil service (if needed)
check and adjust handbrake if needed.
and a few more safety checks.
(2)Tires for a VZ? Depends if they are stock or aftermarket rims?
Call your local tire place and get a few quotes. And it all comes down the quality you are after too.
(3) Most services need to be done every 10.000k's or so. I tend to service my car every 5000. As i like to have clean fluids running in the car and this way i can pick up on what it uses most of :).
Hope that helps mate.

(1) Define a "normal" service. Some scheduled services require transmission filter and oil, coolant changes, plugs, then you have V6 or V8? Start at probably $69-89 at many places for a filter and (cheap) oil change, plus inspection, but nothing else.
(2) Best you ring a tyre shop. These would be 30 different options depending on your budget! Are they standard 17 inch, or bigger?
(3) Most will do what is recommended, hence every 9 months or 15,000km, whichever comes first. More regular servicing can be done for cars driven in "extreme" conditions (thrashed, towing, dusty areas, city traffic etc), or for owners in love with their car a bit more...:hide:

I once saw a DVD where a girl was so in love with her car, she had a "sexual experience" with the gearstick...:eyes:

Just a basic car service. And, stock tyres.

Most basic services only include fluid changes (depending how generous your mechanic is)...so should not cost too much imo. A rough guess would say about 110$?
With the tires it all comes down to what brand you are after. I got Yokohama A Drives fitted last year on my 15" wheels and they are a great tire (440$ balanced and alignment at Bob Jane). Still deciding what rubber to get on my 17"s. Just give your local tire places a call and get a few quotes. :goodjob:
