Hey guys...

I bought some Turtle Wax Wheel Cleaner the other week to use on my the alloy wheels (factory) on my wifes VZ SVZ. I followed the instructions to a tee. Now the wheels have appear to have a whitish residue and feel a little rough.

Just wondering if anyone knows what will bring the wheels back to how they were before this. Regular car polish didn't appear to remove any of the stain, and respraying them is out of the question.

Help please.

Unsure, just appears to be stained. But wouldn't be surprised if it had eaten into Clear Coat.

Sounds like it might have eaten into the clear coat then mate, esspecially if the surface is rough compared to what it used to be like.

Got me stuffed how it would do it though, nothing on the back of the bottle about applying on different rims ect?

just the usual saying that it can be used on all types of rims. Oh well, it isn't really noticable. Might try a few more polishes.

Mate get some Maguires Hot wheels wheel cleaner.. Its in a bigish spray bottle has black top with pinkish colour see through bottle..
Should have a picture of a big billet style hot rod wheel on the front..

Isn't the cheapest but its the best and hopefully it will clean up your rims.. it smells harsh and try not to get it on your fingers to much but along with a soft wheel brush clean your wheels using it.. Ive used it on Painted and chromed wheels and its the best ive used by far.. gets rid of dirt/baked on brake dust etc.. I try stay away from cheaper brands like turtle wax, armorall etc.. With the exception of bowdens Products which seem to be very cheap for the product you get..(There quick detailer is awsome)

PS: If you buy this wheel cleaner you might want to put it in a spray bottle with a finer spray nozzle as the one its comes with is pretty crap and doesn't spray the best/wastes a fair bit.

you sure the cleaner did it, wasn't already their?

i can't see how any specific cleaner could eat/discolour the hard factory clear coating. brake fluid will etc.

can you take a photo of it ?

car polish won't take it off you say, could try a mag wheel metal polish. yes i know it for metal, but that stuff is good for a good cutback into paint also, then polish after that. it will work providing it just marked paint and the marks are not all the way through to the metal already. i used it before on wheels and when i run out of buffing compound and on paint jobs, works good.

the garnish panel here was done in acrylic paint (spray cans even) and cut back with mag wheel polish, so it doesn't stuff up paint...low res phone camera + some movement blur

nah, was a bit of an experiment, when i get sick of it maybe i do that next. prefer it to not look like oem or like the majority of others. A bit more of the old camaro rx7 6 series look i like atm. want a continuation between the lights not separation, an older look not newer.

Most here like a factory look, i want to be different to all others. but these are getting around so will be changing lights etc again.

I do like VX calais garnish setup, but many around like that also. I might try that next if I give up on custom, or considering making a custom panel up no one has.

not sure on the chrome all around the car, oem was berlina chrome, removed it all ages ago, the put it all back recently for a different look, still no that happy with it, i'll work out the look one day when i get time. I just keep trying stuff till its right. I don't want a VX garnish light seperation painted look along with the other thousands around.

but getting way off topic now, was just trying to show that mag wheel polish works on paint as a cut back.

A friend of mine has a VX SS put the Berlina/Calais centre Garnish on and it looks really nice at the backend now..

I don't mind VT SS rear.. aslong as the lights are S2 and the light and garnish are nice and shiny/polished.
