Hi guys, Just wanted a bit of feedback on some trouble i'm having with my 03 VY.

On my journey to work the other morning i noticed my head unit turned itself off and back on, just thought it was a bit strange. The next morning i started the car it ran for about 5secs and then cut out. I then started the engine and continued to work thinking i was just unlucky, once again i noticed the head deck lose turn off and back on.

So this morning i decided to have a play and look into it. I started the car and started playing with things whilst it was idling. At one stage i switched the headlights on and the car cut out. After this it wouldn't start at all for 15mins or so, turned the key no signs of life no ignition or anything.

Personally i have ruled the battery out, it is brand new, connections are good, and the car does start, leaving it to an electronics issue. Something must be shorting out.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like a loose or bad contact at the battery terminal, but you say they are tight and good connections ? also check the earth strap just under the a/c compressor as i,ve had a few in that have come loose causing a similar issue.good luck

Yeah mate, i disconnected the battery and cleaned the terminals just to make sure, and re tightened everything. I will check your suggestion in the morning, just strange it shorted out when i turned the headlights on, which gave me my first clue. Thanks heaps.

It doesnt sound like short as it sounds like a voltage supply issue, remember if the volts drop below 9volts or rise above 14.8 the pcms shuts down .

So most likely in this case something is causing an under supply of volts, just as an example 9v, shutting down the pcm, and in turn the engine?

I could be wrong as i havent had a look at the car,but from what ur telling me here,it sounds like a loose or bad connection of one of your main supply battery cables, give the cables under the hood a good look over and wiggle them by hand to see if theres any loose connections
