I went through the process of looking at one about a year ago as a replacement for my Aprillia Pegaso.

Pros: Suzuki engine, looks great
Cons: Heavy, no parts available anywhere (I waited 3 months for a speedo cable), heavy, no one wants to service it and did I mention it is REALLY heavy.

After looking at Vstrom, Transalp, 1200GS, KLE500, Cappo and a squillion singles, I ended up with a KTM 990 Adventure.

thanks heaps for that guys forum really helped, am looking at getting it for a cross country trip so lots of dirt and don't want to take my brand new bmw through all that dust,
