Hi,
Does any one have a 2x4 bt-50 2.5d? of driven one a bit?
Thinking of getting rid of the ss ute to get a 2.5d tray ute (open to all makes) but the mazda looks good for the price.
And also whats a realistic price for a vy2 ss ute, 100,000km, 18in cv8r wheels, pt tune, tub liner, ladder racks ,full service history, been used for work so there are some lightish scratches around the tray. Silver
Thanks ben

Hey buddy my good mate has the exact one with 60,000km (hardly broken in) on the clock and the thing is unreal. VERY impressive torque, probably the best pull in it's class, but I heard the newer 3.0td has a bit more. Fuel economy isnt as good with big loads on it compared to others, but still not bad.
Go for a drive in one and youll deffinently notice how impressive that little 2.5TD is. But in saying that my mom has the STX Navara 2.5TD and I would prefer that, smoother, classier, bigger but not as much tray room (unless you get the new work mate models with single cab, or you can put the alloy tray on the dual but that would make it ****ing long).
If I was in your position, and I assume it's for work use, id be looking at the
Navar
Hilux
BT50
Ranger (same engine as mazda)
Goodluck.

BT-50 and ford Ranger are almost identical just different front. I drive the 2.5td ranger everyday for work purposes. i have an a frame/glass racks that hang over both sides, all my tools, and the steel tray. probably 300kg worth of shit on the back, and it does 170 with ease, and steps out in the wet when boost comes on. I could not beleive how much power this thing ahs, and economy is great. We changed our 2L petrol couriers to these, and we are getting almost twice the fuel economy and more than double the power. I would highly recommend buying one!

Mate that 170km/h cruising speed surely tips you the BT-50's way!
Not sure I'd want to be anywhere near a commercial vehicle doing 170 with a load on it though....

Ive heard the BT - 50 and Ranger have impressive power and torque. A BT - 50 passed me on the highway last year, and I must say in went like the clappers. Impressive for a Diesel anyway.
Id pick the BT over the Ranger though, as its nicer looking, and better equipped than the Ranger. (eg, the BT's get alloy wheels whereas the Ranger has steel rims. The Ranger looks bland as well)

Thanks for the reply, I will go and drive on tomorrow if i get the time and get a trade in price for my ute.
I did read that its a good little motor (wonder if its hard to get more out of it:1peek:)
I will get a dule cab in 2-3 years, I love the hiluxs but there about 10k more for the same sort of thing (diesel) i would like abs though.
170kmh ... christ
Gee im just about sold on these the power and fuel ecc sound good, I think the bt looks better from simple things like wheels

Both BT50 and Ranger are made in the Auto Alliance factory in Thailand; there is a new Ranger out in May. Ranger is a lot more comfortable than the previous Courier (assume BT50 is the same).
Excellent cars; Ranger does offer optional side airbags (BT50 does not); very ordinary fuel economy with a load on board (even if not towing).
They can develop a problem early in their life (less than 20,000kms) whereby they pop out of 5th gear; ends up needing a relpacement box; so check if it has had this done; I manage a fleet with about 100 Rangers and 10% have had this problem; once rectified no repeat problem.
If any incling of it popping out of 5th stay away from it (if not under manufacturer warranty); same if it has trouble going into reverse (reverse and 5th on same gear).
Hope this helps......

The joy of living out in the sticks had a rather clear view of open land haha.
Unfortunately the ranger had to get towed home today as a truck threw up a large stick and it pierced a tiny hole in the radiator. These radiators must be rather thin, and with a very open grill there isn't much to protect it. although the BT-50 does seem to be a bit more closed in. Id suggest the BT-50 as well it does look better.
