Who's going to the 12 hour production race this weekend?

If you are intending and after a couple of tickets... I have 2 x 3 day passes going for 1/2 price of the gate.

PM me if you are interested in the tix and they are available to be collected either tonight or tomorrow in Sydney.

Thanks Roly,
Thats bullshit, there is about a dozen threads on here with people saying we should go back to Group A and how people would love to see Group A race at Bathurst. Even though a EVO will probably take 1st, the Commodores like the mertens/cramp will be good to see.
Surely there would be an audience for this, even if they put it on one of the HD Channels. :soap:

Any other way of getting some footage?

The V8 Ute i have tuned for this years Bathurst 12hr did 258kph down the straight this morning. Not bad for a stock engine!

Television

Q. Is the Event being televised?

A. A 3 hour free to air special on Channel 7 to be broadcast on 14 March 2009 (timings tbc) and replayed on FOX SPORTS (timings tba).

My 2 x 3 day passes is going for free if anyone in Sydney wants them. You need to collect them from me. PM me if you are interested and I'll give you the details to where you can collect them.

Looking at practice 1 times it would seem even early on that unless you are driving an EVO or a 335 then you are not on the pace.

It would be great to think a V8 Holden would be in with a chance but the closest V8 is like 6 seconds off the pace. Early days i guess......

The track was greasy this morning and things will get closer. Im expecting at least 2:33 from the ute im involved with.

Possibly. I am sure everyone will get faster.

Don't get me wrong i would love to see a V8 up there at the front. I would love to have the car and talent to be that V8 car/driver ! But other cars just seem a lot faster i.e the EVO/335 cars.

I have a video of a mate doing 'Drive Bathurst' from 2007 and his EVO hit 262kmh on Conrod and did a 2min31 lap time. These EVO's are amazing cars.

The greasy track would favour the AWD/lighter cars more I would think. So once it grips up it should be alot less than 6 seconds to the first V8.

Like i said an evo will probably win. As for the BMW Vs Holden remember the GTS and 335 are both PCCA cars and traded wins at each round. With the GTS getting the upper hand at the faster tracks like PI and Sandown.

There might be a few surprizes this year. Its not as simple as being the quickest even if everything goes wrong. A that car can get a few less stops in can win as long as its stays out of trouble. This is where the V8s might be able to beat the evos. Its what we have been developing.

I'll fix my previous post. cant edit it anymore.

Its not as simple as being the quickest even if nothing goes wrong. A car that needs significantly less stops can win as long as its stays out of trouble. This is what we have been developing and think we have the EVOs beat :)

Spot on Oztrack. Let's not forget a race several years back where it poured rain throughout - John Faulkner and his Commodore (GTS I think it was) won that race, beating EVO's and WRX's when on paper a rear drive V8 should not have been near the front on such a wet and miserable day.

The car im involved withs driver is happy in the rain, it separates the drivers much more in their skill levels.
Today was used to settle the co-drivers in , tommorrow it should pull some times.

The cars have three drivers and in many team today was the day of the backup drivers. Tomorrow is going to be when the cars show their true colours. Today many of the teams would have been monitoring fuel usage and working out how many stops they need to make.
I noticed also that the Fords didnt do anything special.

Steve do you know if they have been allowed to upgrade their brakes or discs at least. I remember reading in a mag how they were using a wagon last year but it exploded a disc due to heat. They were running EBC's but not allowed to run different discs.
Is your ute allowed better.
I know my standard brakes handled a big stop at 220 but that was only one stop. Still felt ok on the second.
For any one of interest check the post "drag racing is for wimps"
I would like to think I would smash that top speed of the Evo!!! Big call...... But 220 front standing start 300m into conrod, I would have a chance I reckon

Bathurst isnt really that hard on brakes compared to some circuits, we ran 2 IP cars at the FOSC event last easter and only bled the brakes once after 1 practoce sessiom, qualifying and 2 races. You only have 2 big stops at bathurst at the start of the start finish straight and at the end of the start finish. At a track like Mallala we bleed the brakes after each race.

Hislops Falcon is runing well so far, a little Mazda from SA is waxing all the LSX powered commodores as well chop... THE LSX LM Commodes only need to find 12 secs to be up the pointy end:)

Yep that was awesome. Was there watching from Pit straight most of the race. Was very impressive. Pretty sure it was 2001, as it rained ALL day. Rain only stopped 10 laps from the end of the V8 Supercar race where Tander/Bargwarna held off the two DJR AU's to win the great race.

Its not very fair lining up the Evos against VE Commodores.... :(
What they shoud allow is GTR in there, even in stock trim, without slicks, tune, exhaust, its still 3 seconds a lap faster than the pole sitter

The EVOs are supposed to be submitting datalogs to show boost this year after the race. BUT i was told in qual they could do what they wanted.

The EVOs sound like full on race cars when they drive through the pits. The Holdens all are far calmer.
