Hey guys,
Just wondering who here has bought a car interstate into NSW to get it registered.
I'm looking for a VY/VX SS and there are a few interstate.
Question I have; Will I have trouble passing a car which has had mods - Ie, lowering, exhaust, rims, etc, etc.
Are there any LS1 specialists who do blueslips where I can get in contact with?
Cheers

The vehicle needs to be atleast legal 100mm clearance height when fully loaded(get 5 people in it)
Rims will need to be legal tyre rolling diameter(November 2003 RTA tyre guideline)
Exhaust will need to sound legal.

Hi jonesy_87_
Look at this link (Although SA Act, it is all Aus Standard)
www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/sa/consol_reg/rtsr1999308/
54 (Tyre tread)
73 (Clearance)
150 (Exhaust)
They do from time to time release bulletins where they repeal some clauses. But I believe this is the most up to date.
I'm not suggesting that you will know what db level your car is but you may find other things that are relevant to you.
I have just bought a 6.0L Berlina in QLD and will need a NSW Blue Slip. It's funny. Mine too is lowered, sports exhaust with 19" rims. I am booked in for a Blue Slip this coming Monday.
With respect to iamhappy46's answer, I don't think the vehicle has to be laden. If that were the case, the term of "Australian Standard" would have no meaning. Albeit the minimum is 100mm clearance.

Even after the blue slip has been done, there is a chance the RTA will select the vehicle to go 'over the pits' at an RTA Inspection station when processing the registration for the vehicle. I was warned when I bought my ute (was VIC rego but already in NSW) that this may happen. So be warned if it's not 100% legit.

Damn. Wish you hadn't have said that until after Monday. Now I'll be worried all weekend.
But thanks for the heads up

It is ‘random’ what vehicles they select but I was told they target specific vehicles which may be prone to rebirthing, stolen, motor swaps etc. So performance vehicles will be the target but my XR8 had no issues.

It is up to the individual Blue Slip Inspection Station as to what they 'consider' a safe road height. If it is 100mm off the ground with nobody in it, then it is a fail.
All the RTA guidelines are on the NSW RTA website, as SA rules are different to ours. SA is much more stringent on some things, which our SA members can testify to.

Well you did say performance vehicles :yahoo:

You're right iamhappy46. My bad.
This is where I get my info. Among other sites.

The problem with that, IT doesn't say that the vehicle has to be laden. But the inspector may. As if anyone is going to argue with an him. He'd just get you for everything else I guess.

Apparantly the RTA inspection is based on newer cars and they don't go over the whole car but rather check that the vin numbers, engine numbers, etc. all match up. Although I'm not completely sure.
I think I'm just going to stick to buying a car from NSW. Saves a bit of hassle with getting everything organised.
Thanks for the links and help though!

dragging up an old thread. I may be moving from qld to sydney so am worried about the ute with a aftermarket exhaust which is quite loud. Will this be rejected? And if so, how do other guys get their cars passed? QLD does not need to get a roadworthy every year, so am not used to having to worry about my car passing, even though it is in good condition.

workshops are more inclined to fail you on items that will cause a danger to yourself and others on the road
eg.
way to low
lights/blinkers/horn etc not working
bald tyres
no brake pads left
i think you would have to be unlucky to find a shop that will fail you for an exhaust ( totally anal IMO ) if they do
worst comes to worst borrow a std cat back from a forum member / workshop to pass the roady :)

I agree with "daskip" on that one. I have had my blueslip done and it went off without a hitch. The main purpose of the blueslip is not to check for roadworthiness, (although obviously they do) but just to enter the car on to the NSW system.
Cheers and I hope all goes well

I bought a VT SS from QLD, got it blue slipped no problem and it had a V2 Vortech bolted to it.

If your worried about it give any Forum sponser a call from the Sydney area.
They will more than likely have a spare catback you can borrow.
Just make sure all your lights, brakes, tyres, seatbelts, etc are in order.

Having no brake pads left is not a fail item. As long as the brake pads work and stop the vehicle within the spec of the brake test machine then it passes. Also inspection stations do not have db testers we are only checking that its secure to the vehicle and has no leaks. But you can still be defected for it and have to go to the RTA for a full inspection that where they have all the equipment to check it out....

They also (should) get the car up on a hoist and check things like bushes, ball joints, leaky struts/shocks, any oil leaking anywhere - that is if you're going for anything more than just an identity check.
