So lately my 6 peed auto had been giving me some strange unpleasant reactions.
Usually the most common problem is a clunk when changing up or even down but not every time it happens every now again so maybe in a 15min drive it might have 3 or 4 times.
Other noticable problems include a change of gear but the revs stay at the same level for a sec or delay before the gear changes.
Some times i can go for a drive and its fine but more so than not it feels very clunky and feels like it is slipping to change gears. And when it down shifts from 3rd to 2nd it sometime make a very loud noise and vibrates through the whole car.
In the morning not every day but 50% of the times i have noticed when the car is cold and i start to drive i change from 1st to 2nd and i get a loud thud in the diff when it changes gear but than after that it is fine for the rest of the day.
Not sure what is up, car only has 59000k on it and i took it to holden and they gave the tranny a program update so they say but it has made no noticable improvements. This problem only recently came on last 2k or so.
Should i take it back to holden and complain? any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Fluid need changing? Or at least topping up?

Hi,
Ive considered this but there is now warning light coming up and i dont even know where the trans dipstick is on these ve's its certanly not visible when you pop the hood. Also the manual says the oil only needs to be touch once every 160k so i doubt its an oil issue.
I could be wrong though.

I'd definitely not being waiting til 160k to change the fluid!
Does the manual not say where the dipstick is?
Does it also say you need to check it with the engine running?
Which warning light has come up?

The 6 speed auto hasn't got a dip stick
Get the trans temp to around 35-50 degrees and un-do the trans sump bolt while car is idling.
If fluid trickkles out than level is fine, if nothing comes out than it needs topping up
The car needs to be level while you do it.
I would change the fluid at 60,000km, even if owners manual says different

There is a big thread on VE auto's.
I'd recommend you find it via :search:, and compare your complaints to many other peoples posts.

well i would take it to a dealer for a fluid change this way they can inspect if the fluid is contaminated or traces of metal filings ? also is the car tuned as the car wears it could need adjustment on the tune
i have a transmission that clunks and bangs in to gears ,it is a moddified trans so in think most of it is normal but i would think the standard one should be smooth as .i find it easy to belive that it could only last 60 kms longest i had one last is 25 kms there always gonna be a problem

car is tuned but was only tuned last week, before it was stock as a rock and the trannie is acting exactly the same before and after tune, definetly a mechanical issue not a computer tune.
Hi,
Our 6 speed auto in our MY09 60th Anniversary Calais V V8, has had issues from day one. Flaring from 2nd to 3rd gear, clunking into gear, etc. Our gearbox is being replaced soon by Holden as it was logged with Holden Engineering via our service department.
My recommendation is to ask for service to ride with you in the car to see what you are experiencing. Tell them to log a TAS case in regards to shifting issues.
From what I understand there is an issue with some seals in the gearbox and it is what is causing the issues. Good Luck...
