THE Pontiac G8 GXP - built for export by the GM Holden plant at Elizabeth in Adelaide - has been named in the top 10 of the "best cars available in the U.S.".
The car is based on and built on the same production line as the Holden Commodore V8. It is the top version of Pontiacs built in Adelaide for export to North America.
It has been placed in ninth position of the 40 best cars available in the U.S. by Motor Trend magazine and website.
They considered the 274 car models on sale throughout the U.S. before reaching a decision. The Pontiac G8 GXP's ranking is all the more honourable given that it sells for $US39,900 ($61,000), while cars rated above it include the Audi R8 ($US126,700), Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 ($US106,500), Ferrari 430 Scuderia ($US267,000), Nissan GT-R ($US77,800) and Porsche 911 GT ($US192,000).
It finished ahead of the best Jaguar, the XF Supercharged ($US65,000) and the best Mercedes-Benz, S550 ($US97,000) in 14th and 15th.
"It's the best Pontiac performance sedan in history," says Motor Trend.

Doesn't it suck that even with shipping all the way to the states, it's cheaper than what we/you get?!! LS3, heated seats, remote starting, TR6060 gearbox, FE3 suspension, Brembo brakes... it's an amazingly good value package!! But looking at it, no wonder the americans are buying up commodore front ends and sticking them on... FUGLY!!
