The Captiva sits atop the medium SUV segment sales chart after two months of 2009, ahead of the Toyota Prado and Kluger and the Ford Territory. SX still significantly undercuts those three despite the price rises.

Holden gives Captiva a tweak
Bruce Newton, drive.com.au, March 6, 2009

Holden will next week reveal a series of changes to its popular Captiva four-wheel-drive lineup, chopping models, raising prices and adding equipment.

Dropped from the range of the biggest-selling medium SUV is the Maxx, the smallest and most expensive model in the lineup. Also gone is the manual version of the base-level SX 2.0-litre turbo-diesel all-wheel drive.

The rest of the SX lineup continues with a $1000 price rise, something softened by the addition of a standard third row seat. That brings it up to the same seven-seat capacity as the mid and high-spec CX and LX Captivas.

SX, which also adds auto headlights, now kicks off with the $35,490 diesel manual front-wheel drive, climbing as high as $39,490 for the diesel auto all-wheel drive. The petrol 3.2-litre V6 auto AWD is priced at $38,490.

The Korean-built Captiva has steadily gained in acceptance since its 2006 launch. In a declining SUV market the addition of the diesel engine has proved vital, now claiming 70 per cent of sales volume.

The Captiva sits atop the medium SUV segment sales chart after two months of 2009, ahead of the Toyota Prado and Kluger and the Ford Territory. SX still significantly undercuts those three despite the price rises.

The Maxx, priced at $44,490, was something of an orphan in the range. While it shared the Captiva’s all-wheel drivetrain and V6 engine, it was housed in a smaller five-seat only body.

“Maxx was premium five-seater SUV with contemporary styling and luxury appointments,” a Holden spokesperson said. “However, demand at the high end of the price ladder was from families who still have a functional need for seating flexibility. We believe this demand is covered by our Captiva LX.”

The top-spec LX, available only as petrol and diesel auto AWD, adds a reversing camera and leather gearshift, and rises $500 to $43,990 (petrol) and $44,990 (diesel).

The CX, also petrol and diesel auto AWD only, adds auto headlights and leather bolstering but pricing remains unchanged at $40,490 (petrol) and $41,490 (diesel).

A seven seater Captiva for $35,490 is excellent value - and something to seriously consider if you need seven seats but not AWD. I'd be more than happy with FWD in something like this seeing as I would never go off road anyway...

The Maxx is dropped. Is that the one that was sourced from a different factory to the rest?

I think the Maxx came from Europe..
We are seriously considering a Captiva as our 2nd car when we've paid the SS off which wont be long..
We were looking for something that we could fit a reasonable load in the back when needed so we were tossing up between that a capitva and sportwagon. But the extra 2 seats puts the captiva in front plus I wont be so paranoid to take a captiva camping as I would be with a sportwagon..
Plus if we get a Capitva the SS gets turned into my weekend playtoy so it's getting cam'd for a start..

Maxx came from Korea, same as regular Captiva.
The difference is that the Maxx was designed by Opel, whereas the regular Captiva was designed by Holden designers.

This is just a "tweak" to the model line up which should see the Cappy through to some major engineering updates in 2010, including a 6 spd auto for the diesel (at least) - given it is the same driveline in the Epica and Cruze.

I'm hoping it does talked to the minister for finance this morning and she wants to start looking at buying our new car next year..

Good to see the korean crap tag the captiva had is well and truly dead and people are getting excited about them. Mine has now done 110,000 kays and i'm still impressed at its practicality and reliability. Tows a load like a gem too.

I've taken home a VE V6, an Epica turbo Diesel, an Astra CD 60th and a Captiva turbo Diesel, all in the last week. Feel a bit like a road tester!
I can certainly see why the Captiva turbo diesel is so popular. They are a good smallish size, nice and torquey, and quite comfortable to drive, all at a good price.

I was under the impression that the Captiva was being built in Thailand?

I believe the Thai plant was added in more recent times, put in the earlier days anyway, both came from the same Korean plant.

Link does not work for me. I would have thought the Kluger would take the honours after the Captiva's shocker March tally of 576.
