Buy yourself a scangauge for around $200 (see Australian LS1 and Holden Forums (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=86346)) as that gives instant usage in litres per hour or put in VE triple window dash from a Calais V or similar should work (but don't rely on me). That's possibly what the "option 2" upgrade  refers to as I'm sure Holden then have to do something with their Tech 2 machines to make the triple window dash work in a car that didn't come with one.
Or in Australian LS1 and Holden Forums (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=115253) there is a formula for converting between from litres per 100km at a given speed to litres per hr (instantaneous) but given it is based on a longer term average you would have to keep resetting your trip meter to make it relevant.

Yeah, sorry Skippy. I didn't know that the Holden's don't have a display for instantaneous fuel usage and made the faux pas in another thread. I have an HSV which does have the feature. I don't know if you can "enable" it

tech 2 thats the one so its all ve ss`s dont have the intantaneous??? weird how the ve doesnt have the feature and the vx does in the ss!!! ill call into holden 2moz and see what it will cost to load up? "if they can" like its not a huge thing i just wanted to see if there was a way to activate the menu or something....

You can always activate the mechanics mode and it gives you instant fuel consumption.......and heaps of other interesting info like throttle position in % and digital rpm etc.
Start the car pressing the button on the left (the dial one) on the steeriong wheel.

As zapher says it is in engineering/mechanic's mode but only in litres per hour so if you want to know litres per 100km you have to do the conversion referred to in my original post.
