Hi all
I have a cammed vt with 365 at the wheels i usually have 19"s on which are very grippy and dont really break traction without a clutch kick but the other day i decided to chuck on my 15 inch stockies and take it for a lap around the block well i couldnt believe the difference felt like i had gained another 200hp lit them up with ease now my question is what would a set of 17s be like on the street?can anyone give some idea how there car goes with the same sorter power and 17s ie how easy to break traction

it will come down to the the amount of tyre on the road mate. your 15's are prob 195 or 205 wide where as your 19's would prob be 225,235,245,255,265 etc etc. generally the wider the tyre the more grip. doesnt really matter on the diameter. also tyre pressure come into it aswell a low pressure will allow the tyre to balloon out giving more traction

You have 365rwkw's from a cam only vt? Nice...
I have a mate with only 250 at the wheels, and he usually runs 20's which are 225/30's. He has no trouble breaking traction with a clutch blip, but with 235/40 17's he has no trouble getting them to spin. I must say though, that if you can't spin the 20's with 365rwkw, i'm not sure what to think..

Wheels are changing the final drive ratio. I felt a good kick changing one diff ratio.

my vu ute runs 17inch wheels when it was turbo turned them by just hiting the loud pedal in any of the first 3 gears. 930Nm of torque though

I have 17's on the rear of the ute and she has no problem spinning them up with a clutch kick.

i had 17s on last week going to the runs. 300 rwkw. spin with ease. 1st 2nd frying the tyres. had to change them back to 20s. :bawl:

How is that possible if the 17's are the correct commodore fitment they will be the same diameter as his 20's. It all depends on the tyres as the rims have nothing to do with it. In fact you should be able to light up a set of 20's easier than 15's due to reduced tyre wall flex.
There are many variables as to why the OP can suddenly do burnouts in his car from rubber width to air pressure to tyre compound.

when the car is moving you prity much drop the clutch like doing a burn out but when your moving

I agree, its probably more to do with either tyre size, pressure or compound. The lower profile tyres are all a reasonably high performance based tyre where as the 15" range are more aimed at daily commuting (longer lasting rather than grip).
There would be bugger all difference in rolling diameter between a 15" rim and a 20" rim provided you've got the correct tyres fitted.

LOL!
Depends on what you call fun hey SEEDY?
I think the traction from those 17 inch MT Streets would be FUN in the right environment!
Any one say launch time.:)

Wouldn't the weight difference between some 20 inch rims and 15 inch stockys also be a factor in it's more potent attitude now?

My thoughts exactly. A 15" alloy would be alot lighter than a 20" alloy of the same design.

The rubber was $350/tyre if memory serves me correctly.
May have been a little less.
Widening the rims was another $700 for two.
Custom made spacers were about $90. (15mm spacer on passenger side, 12.5mm on drivers side).
I believe MarkOne2 squeezed a set onto 8" wide rims

I was running stock 17's on my vz 6.0 and would smoke them at will,
Now have 265-35-19' much more grip and when there is a hint of wheel spin it goes into a wheel hop........dont like that at all.....:soap::soap:
