It is a great bit of road but beware that it is heavily patrolled by the boys in blue.:teach:
Make sure you dont carry on like this guy Australian LS1 and Holden Forums (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=73068) Cheers John

...not advisable
as mentioned very heavily policed
(cars and bikes....marked and unmarked)
even more so since the fires...very much a moonscape
the last bloke who tried a bit of fun there a week or so
ago ended up under a 4WD...as roadkill :bawl:

DONT even bother, the spur, the run up to lake mountain and reefton spur driving is pretty much over now due to police presence. i recently went through black spur and it was filled with traffic coppers, luckily the gf was driving...
About two months ago a few modified cars were going fore a run through reefton, got to the nd of it all and TMU were sitting there waiting to canary anything that looked the slightest bit modified and to hand out tickets
Its a shame most hill runs are now all but over unless you wanna try and fluke your way through

I always saw the boys in blue on Black Spur, only seen them once on Reefton.
Either way, very important to keep that in mind... Nothing like losing your ticket to ruin a Sunday ride.

It's worth doing once or twice ,
bit like the Canberra to Batemans bay road ,
except no , fark me sideway hairpins - unless they've been smooth out in the past 15 yrs .
Back in the daze when Vic had no points system ,
it was worth a $135.00 fine for a blast up to Eildon and back .
When your at the end/start of the spur
before/after you get to lilydale turn off the Swansea rd ,
ride it a it till ya get to the Mt Dandy tourist rd , - nice ride
take that till ya get to the Burwood HW to torack
and do the Yarra Blv ,
all the Cafe racers meet along running slicks .
Remeber
the faster you ride ,
the more corners you'll find .
and
tghe less you use your brakes ,
the faster you'll go .

The Black Spur is heavily patrolled, unless you're going to go mid week it's not worth it IMO. Plus there's always a bus or "slow poke" just as you get on the good stuff. The Reefton Spur is much more fun, its patrolled from time to time but no where near as much as the Black Spur. At one stage they stopped patrolling it because they (police) couldn't catch the motorbikes. Instead they would time the riders from the bottom to a certain point, about half way. If they were under the time they were of course speeding, 3 or 4 police would be hiding in the bush off the side of the road and just flag them down, and fine them.
I can't stress enough to say, but be very careful on the Reefton Spur, as A LOT of bike riders have come to greif and it's considered one of the toughest roads in the country. We all know you bike riders like to hug the white line and that you're doing nearly 200 clicks on some parts...
All the best.
Cheers.

Last time I went for a drive through there (in my car) I was just taking it easy on my first run to make sure that there were no police about, and I just happened to catch a glimpse of a bloke with a radar gun up on top of one of the cuttings! I rounded the corner and there was a highway patrol car there with a bike pulled over. Lucky I decided to take the first run slow, otherwise I wouldn't have seen the cops til they saw me! I'd definitely take a slow run through first wherever you go.
