i was talking to a mate about putting extractors on my 07 ve ss. he got out of the exhaust instalation game just as the ve 6.0l was introduced and was telling me that in the early days they had issues with installing extractors. apparently something to do with the computer or something? im assuming it was to do with the oxy sensor. has anyone heared of this b4. if so has it been fixed?

are you talking about damaging oxy sensors and clearing faults?

There were, and still are, issues with fitting extractors which move the position of the cats as one of the measurements the ECM reads is somehow to do with the temperature difference between the front and back of the cats (or something along those lines). The further back the cats are moved (i.e. when fitting long 4-1s) the more that falls outside predetermined parameters and can set off error codes.

The solution is to tell the engine to effectively ignore those error codes - needs Tech2 (I think) or most people get their tuner to do it. Almost everyone who installs such extractors will get their cars tuned to make the best advantage of them.

oh ok, thanks wonky.
just out of curiousity what sort of quality are the standard cats? is it worth spending the $$$ to go after market?

Apparently reasonably OK. Problem is with most extractors except shorties (which may or may not be worth getting) the standard cats won't fit (need rather extensive mods) so you really need aftermarket ones anyway.

Sureflo has some stainless 100cpsi (i.e. very little flow restriction) ones for a good price (around $500 pair I think). See the Sureflo sponsor section.
