this is my first post, so i hope it isnt in the wrong area.

basically, im in the market for a vx II ss m6 but wanted to clear up a few things first.

1. i want to lower the car, but i want everything to be legal - from what i can tell, using something like sl king springs and monroe shocks will have the car looking fantastic but sitting below the 100mm minimum clearance requirement in victoria. is this true?

2. if that is the case, i am considering using a coil-over kit i read about made by the same people that do the gen-tt kits. these are infinitely adjustable for height, which overcomes the clearance issue. however, does anybody know whether fitting this kit will contravene ADRs?

3. if sl king springs and monroe shocks (or a similar combination if you believe it to be better) are too low, and the hsd kit contravenes ADRs, does anybody know of a spring/shock combination that would have the car at legal clearance?

other plans for the car include:
* ls1 edit (unsure of the benefits of going mafless and any EPA issues it may cause, eg. exposed filter element etc.)
* tri-y extractors (more midrange torque?)
* full exhaust incl. high-flow cat/s

possible future upgrades:
* valve springs
* clutch
* 19 inch rims
* stereo

any help/advice would be much appreciated!

im in melbourne's north west - any workshop recommendations?

thanks.

Exactly, ring GM or another sponsor and talk to them about what you're after, they'll set you right.

super lows will have it illegal, pretty much hsv fe2 suspension is properly on the limit. It also depends on the headers.
Mate if you are going to modify your car and put an exhaust on it then its already illegal.
and dependent on which cats you use these may not meet epa requirements.
adjustable coil overs are great. but if you're out and u get done for an inspection they are technically illegal as they know you can easily change the height anytime you want.
Same reason full aftermarket ECU's are illegal.
buy it leave it stock or just do it sensibly
i haven't ever had trouble with mine and its sitting on sl's with the HSV kit so it looks lower than say an exec.
also twin 3" pipes including big headers.

Also definitely upgrade your valve springs if they haven't been done as they stock items are quite weak, especially after a tune

Ide suggest some coilover adjustables like TIEN. Saved me the hassle of R&R springs to get it through rwc, took half an hour to raise it. They are costly but im sure theres cheaper options out there

I have a very similar set-up to what you want.

Have super lows on fronts (original shocks), lows on rears (pedders). Car sits at a very good height and am quite sure i have the 100mm clearance.

Also have a 2.5" xforce tri-ys, high flow cats and catback.

Had clutch done, ripshift (highly reccomended), maffless and sitting on 18 inch wheels at the moment.

In this picture, I still had superlows in the rears but changed to lows a couple of weeks later (too rough ride for my liking)

Wheels and suspension work: Protek tyres in oakleigh (forum sponsor in the name of Black Diamond)

All other work: Chevs Autorepairs in carrumsdown (forum sponsor here aswell)

Might be a stretch for you coming from Northern side though.

thanks for all your feedback!

ypad1 - that is a tidy looking car! yours looks to be sitting pretty close to how i would like it, thanks for the information. how do you think the x-force headers compare to something like pacemakers? i know the XR6T boys love x-force gear.

Louie_D - i am happy to consider tein over hsd (and would prefer coil-overs to spring/shock setup) but i just need to find out whether they are alright from a legality/ADR standpoint. easy enough to adjust for RWC and still passed without a drama?

consult an engineer on this issues with coil overs
and the tiens are coil over fronts but still shock/spring setup in the rear.
