What could California possibly have against these colors, you ask? Apparently, the California Air Resources Board figures that the climate control systems of dark colored cars need to work harder than their lighter siblings – especially after sitting in the sun for a few hours. Anyone living in a hot, sunny climate will tell you that this assumption is accurate, of course.

I couldn't imagine an SS, Calais or Caprice not being available in BLACK!!

I remeber someone did a side by side test with two identical cars, one black one white, there was only 2 degrees Celsius of difference. Enough to feel, but not enough to care about.

If the black car has tints ans uses a sun shade on the front screen it will be no hotter than the white car without tints and no sunshade.

Because they are designed to absorb light, white reflects light so it will not absorb the entire spectrum. Heat absortion is another thing ;)

You would really need to measure the difference in panel temps between a white car and a black car, both with 35% window tint to get a consistent result.

I did see a black VL Calais, but really, prior to the VX, very few mass produced Holdens came in black (by this I mean non HDT/HSV)

Here's a question for the forum, looking through old HQ-HZ catalogues a colour Tuxedo Black was available, I can't ever remember seeing one. Has anyone?

Just further to this explaination, the light gets trapped under glass where it heats due to minimal air flow. This is why solar heaters still work in winter. Ever seen a cat lie under a sunlit window in winter? Same thing:)

Black was available in VS, and VT's - quite a few black VT ss's or s pac around. Although they had a bit of blue or green mixed in as a metallic colour, not a non metallic pure black.

If I had a choice I would never have a black car ever again. Looks farkin good when its clean but is the worst colour to keep that way. Every bit of dust and grit sticks out like dog balls and when your bordering on OCD like me :lol: it becomes frustrating. The most impractical useless colour for a car. Give me my Heron white ute again anyday!

You wouldnt belive the condition the paint was in after sitting around for 15 months and the free swirls that came from the panel shop LOL

But Des brought it back like new. Only person i would recomend in Perth for paint rectification
