The future is coming quick and I beleive "electric" has a lot of performance potential, like instant torque !

The quickness: the standard S will get to 60 in 5.5 to 6.0 seconds. A coming sport version will get to 60 in "well under five seconds," Musk says.
The car will get a single-speed transmission.
The car fits seven people and their luggage: five adults and two children in rear-facing seats under the hatch inside, with luggage in the boot up front.
The dashboard screens were installed to rid the interior of buttons. The 17-inch main display is fully 3G and Internet capable.
On a 220V outlet, the car can be recharged in 4 hours.
Option packages are being decided, with the only initial option being the battery pack. Customers will also be able to buy the 160-mile pack and rent the long range pack for a trip.

They are even working on "V8" sounds >
From Brabus ! >

"but we’re most interested in the “space sound generator” that will come equipped on each Brabus Roadster. The tuning house is seeking to give the Tesla a more exciting, albeit completely faked, running sound with electronically produced effects. Owners will be able to set their Tesla to make noises approximating a V-8 engine, a racecar engine"

I heard the other day they have developed battery technology that can enable charging in a few minutes instead of hours. If this is the case the introduction of electric cars into mainstream society will start to happen rapidly.
cheers

Thats nice. First time I saw it I thought it was Masarati, but with that side by side I agree AM which isn't a bad thing.
Better than the Mercedes effort (no its not a joke!).

Ohh bewdy - if it comes to Australia we can pollute the atmospehere with Co2emissions using coal in lieu of petrol/oil, and whilst we are at it we can have one third the range, forgive me if I don't get excited but I'm sure there are a lot misguided people out there who think buying one of these will help save the planet.

i agree.... but i think if i were to get one it would be purely a $$saving related reason... i dont care much for all this global warming stuff.... to me it either BS or too late... i have been known to be wrong though

Im more interested in the dynamic regarding the Middle East once electric cars are in full swing. I would think that oil will stay down in price then as the average Chinese or Indian won't be able to afford the outrageous prices Opec wants for it's oil.
Will big oil start a push towards buying up electric power systems and running their own Nuclear Reactors ? I am sure they won't ride the oil train until they go broke.
I am also thinking that maybe now would be a good time for one of the big auto makers that is really struggling to chuck it's lot into the electric car market.
cheers

True - but it's hell of allot less damaging for the enviroment (our health).
At night our Powerstation run unloaded - power companies would like to make use of this aspect of increased efficiency.
Plus it looks to be real "FUN" to have 100% seamless torque across the range :-)
I can't wait ! GM VOLT - I want one Now....
The strange thing is there is still less polution in burning the fuel at a powerstation / line charger loss than actually burning it in a car petrol motor.
The actual energy used to propel / transport us as human is tragically a small percantage to what is wasted.
A true energy waste is Hydrogen - where you need to make a $hit load of electricity to produce L's of Hydrogen - Now that' was Mr Bushes plan and it was a load of crock.
At least Obamas got the money flowing back to the electrics where it should have been in the first commonsence place.
Cheers !
