Hi Guys, I'm trying to find out the difference in clearance between VE CalaisV (Standard FE2 and 18's) and a VE Senator.
I have the Calais right now, and it scrapes underneath, with moderate load on my driveway. I'm 2 months away from VE Senator and I'm worried that if its much lower I'm screwed.
Hoping someone might know the numbers, I've looked and searched but can't find anything.
Thanks

The brochure for the VE Senator, lists the ground clearance as 102 mms.
I am not sure what the clearance is for a Calais, but you can measure yours as a reference......Cheers John

Is your calais lowered, because standard they are quite high?
I changed my calais to coilovers because of the same problem but mine was lowered already with springs

Yeah, thats definately lower, but I think i can just swing it, as long as its not 80mm. Might have to boot the wife out each time I go up and down the driveway?
Am I right to assume that a Senator is the same ride height as GTS? I know the MRC calibration is different?
Boyley - usually quite high, are you refering to older Calais or VE?
I'm AMAZED by how low my VE Calais is for an everyday family car. I know it has FE2 which is sports suspension, but mine scrapes over speed bumps in shopping centre if there's 3 blokes in it!
Slight off topic, why does the auto sig on the top of my posts tell me I'm "non-validated" I can't find out what to do in the rules to change it.
Thanks

Yeah mate mines a VE and was fitted with the FE2 when new. I never scraped any speed humps but then again never had 4 blokes in it either.
When I fitted the lowered spings it did scrap getting out of my driveway, hence the introduction of the adjustable coilovers.
BTW you are not a contributer untill you've racked up heaps of posts something like 90 or 100 from memory.
Cheers Boyley

Cool thanks gents.
Hope this is helpful for others, as I'm assuming the SS are about the same as well.
Just finally found a Validation rules, you have to be nominated by two other users who know of you and vouch that you're not a nufty.
Sounds like a good idea.

When I was getting the roadworthy certificate for the sale of the Wonkymobile I'm sure I heard the guy say that on newer cars like the VE the required clearance is now only 90mm (in Vic at least). Anyone else heard that?

Definately get the Senator and work out the issues later...if it has too low ground clearance both you and the missus get out and train one of the kids to park it...problem solved...:goodjob:

Funny, the W427 is even lower ...
The Senator is definately quite low. This isnt only because of the lower suspension but also how the front bumper is designed.

when the car 'scrapes' what exactly is it scraping? it normally sounds like something metal, is it bad for the car?

If the car is lowered and has 4-1 extractors it is probably either the cats or extractor flange, neither of which is good. On my previous car the cats were quite badly scraped from all the speed humps etc..
