Like anything, if you do your research and know exactly what you're getting, plus deal with a reputable seller there are some bargains to be had! If you're not careful you can be caught out with CCC (cheap Chinese crap).
I've bought quite a few things from Online Performance only 5 minutes from where I used to live, as have others I know, and they are very good to deal with. With stuff like OTRs you are probably better sticking with tried and true products which people on here have used and given positive comments on.

a short shifter (or cut down factory shifter) will not operate like a rip shifter.

Agree with Wonky.
I made a few mistakes on purchases before finding this site a few years back.
Research and ask a few questions is the go.
That E-Bay item looks like a copy of the PT version I used a few years back.
That Video they show of the thin one looks like the engine is going to suck it in !!
Add another $100 for the filter for that E-Bay item.
It looks thick enough but you never know how it will fit,if it will rub anywhere and if it will crack up with all the under bonnet heat.

I have generally found that buying car parts off of ebay is no more risky than buying anything else from ebay.
You just have to live with the problems you may get related to delays in delivery, or the stuff arounds associated with if they send the wrong item and you have to send it back, but that goes for anything you get off of ebay.
There are some great bargains out there, but you do make a compromise when it comes to after sales service and convenience. Just make sure you pay by paypal, it makes getting a refund much easier if something goes wrong.

Are you prepared to accept an OTR that:
1. Probably won't fit.
2. Has a fairly rubbish internal and external finish.
3. Will need more money spent on a decent filter.
4. Will probably need another form of silicone joiner to make it mate up to the TB.
5. Will probably have the IAT hole filled in with bog.

This is what's been experienced by other members on LS1 who've bought these type of OTRs.
Beware and accept that you're getting a $150 OTR with appropriate quality filter if you buy one.

Some good advice there Dave :goodjob:.
Just remember, you normally only get what you pay for :teach: and sometimes it is not even worth that, as it ends up in the bin .:yup:
Pay for quality at the start and you will always have quality :)

I've actually had a few positive experiences with eBay. I've bought slotted discs, pads and a catback from Online Performance, Yella Terra RR's (which were brand new) and an as new Nolathane bush kit. You'd fall over if I told you how much I've saved.
Just be weary because there are people out there that will try to rip you off...

Ebay itself isn't the issue. People need to do their homework, reading the ad, the sellers feedback and understanding just what you are actually buying. Many just get blinded by "the bargain".
In my case, I often get slagged off by d!ckheads on this forum, yet have over 400 feedbacks at 100% positive, and go out of my way to be helpful, but seriously, some of the stupid questions I get asked, and often also exactly the same ones I clearly write up in my descriptions, show just how many people do not read the listing properly, yet blame ebay for being shonky!

Hi fellas, How about this :
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=180341407357
I currently run a stock air intake and like the fact no tune will be required...The pod looks cheap and nasty but will look into a K&N filter...
So what yous think ?

Not sure what they're worth these days, but if you're looking at $250 plus postage plus a K&N pod filter you'll start to march up towards the $400 mark to hazard a guess. Few years ago I bought a K&N Charger kit (effectively the same kit in terms of overall parts except a smooth plastic maf pipe instead of metallic) for somewhere in that area $wise. Might be worth pricing one up and least that way you've got something to compare against and you can workout which will be best value for money.

I think eBay is a great tool to put you in touch with sellers...
I have bout plenty of big ticket items through eBay. Including, LS1 and fourspeed and disc brakes for the Belair.
Just check their feedback, and make sure you can contact them not through eBay.

i baught an absolute bargain not long ago. I had been looking at purchasing a JHP GTS MAF pipe for my SS, and of course the price is 185$ delivered (from JHP).
coincidentally, someone on ebay was selling one brand new never used (except for trying to fit to a SS inductions growler system and it wouldnt fit so they sold it). I put my bid in with days to go, and i thought it would go for well over 100$. I ended up paying 88$ WITH postage!! fk hows that for good luck and good timing!!
anyway...i was excited.
I also purchased a set of fibreglass engine covers that didnt quite fit (in terms of where the threads mount through from the bracket and slight mis-algin of power steering and oil caps). but i was silly enough to paint them first before i realised hahahaha my bad. just had to file out the mounting holes a tad and live with the caps being slightly off center in the ports.

I've never had any real problems, apart from buyer's not reading the sescription properly or trying to argue about the set postage after bidding. I've bought the shortened "HSV" shifter and it fitted with no problems, also got my VZ monaro bumper and headlight off ebay a hell of alot cheaper than thru holden. As everyone has said so your homework and make sure the seller is reputable with great feedback and there should be no dramas

Not everything on ebay is dodgy. I sold my SS inductions CAI on there two weeks ago and the buyer was very happy with it, he put it on his VZ, even though i told him i thought it wouldn't fit, and he said it worked fine.

Ask questions, and if you don't like what you are hearing (or aren't hearing!), you can walk away and it costs you nothing...

Bloke ... unless you're very tinny like SenatorMike , in the right place at the right time or some other form of anomoly, reasonably priced and good quality OTR (IMO) means in the vicinity of $400-$600 for a good one.
You won't too often find a cheap & "good quality" OTR under $300.

Ah ha you can link. All the details for the ORI is on the e-bay page.
Anyway one thing with e-bay is finding the item is the hardest as sometimes the good stuff is worded stange and when you do a seach it you dont come accross it.
So if you are selling something for a ls1 put Ls1 in the heading so it can be found. Put it in the right area too down to the model of the car too.

If you do your homework in regards to what meets your needs and the prices the product normally sells for, then you can buy it anywhere knowing what’s a good deal and what’s not.
Re eBay: I bought a couple of items and were never delivered.
There is PayPal, a form of payment that gives you supposedly protection. Well, don't you believe it. You go through hundreds of emails and deal with a new person every time you make contact with them. Ultimately PayPal grabs the monies from the seller and hangs onto it, while they endlessly much you (the buyer) around.
Ultimately you give up and no one wins (except of course PayPal) because they retain the dough and no one gets it.
It’s best to buy through sites like this as there are people who genuinely are interested in the same thing and would not sting another member.

You never said a truer word
I purchased a one piece moulded fibreglass OTRCAI from a guy in Qld on EBay
Looked good until I took the filter off, The inside was FULL of long, loose, stiff glass fibres that had never been set properly
They were sharp and because of the shape, couldn't be trimmed with a blade way back in the curved shape
the turbulence set off by the loose fibres would have stopped any gains I got from going OTR
If they look to good be be true, they ARE
Ended up paying $420 for a 2 piece OTR from Corsa in Victoria. It was as good on the inside as it was on the outside
