I was looking around at my options of getting the L92 heads ported when l enquired at Kostecki Engine Centre about getting some CNC porting done. The said they had recently completed a head and cam package on an L98 SS ute which had a basic exhaust, custom grind cam (would not tell me specs), cnc ported L98 heads, springs and a tune. This thing was still running the standard air box also. Went into their store as they had just changed the clutch in it and gave me a listen, sounded tuff as. The thing l can't get over is the dyno figure, 542rwhp. Are ported L98 heads really that good ported or is this just one of those freaky engines that make huge power from word go? They claimed it made approx 330-340 rwhp just with a cat back before they did the package. Anyone else even come close to this on an L98??

Tim,

i had a floor man or something or rather guy approach me while i was filling up fuel at a BP that claimed he worked for Kostecki and claimed big numbers on hp on CNC porting my heads.
he was saying something like 20% rwhp increase on my existing package for $1800-$2500.

now that would be 85+rwhp on my current package.
when i asked him to guarantee me that amount of hp in writing on any independent dyno he said eh would get back to me...never heard back from him :lmao:

then i spoke to John @ SQP and he gave me a real figure porting the L98 heads

Dont know the HP to KW thing but at a guess they are saying 260 rwkw

So that means the stock car would need to be 240 - 245 rwkw....dont think so :confused:

370-380 rwkw ??? seems a bit high for head/cam its about 20rwkw more than ive seen advertised on forum ie. Gm motorsports TK cam minus head port so maybe doable.

Stock claim of 330 HP would be 253.5376 KW

1 hp = 0.7456 kw
1 KW = 1.3410 hp

Yeah, that was the first thing l said to them when l went in there, they claim the video was wrong.

This thing did have a stock intake manifold on it too so l assume the intake temp could be quite high, as for the ambient temp, would it adjust the dyno that much? They claim it drives like it has over 500rwhp?

Well it makes me wonder why so many on here pay $ 10 k + for turbo kits & then fitting & tuning & extras on top to get 350 - 400 + KW . Maybe these guys are on to something :1peek:

I believe the guys at Chev's who've gone Higgins touched up heads on their VE L98s have picked up around 20 - 30 rwkw.

There are a few people on this forum that have had experience with that place, and probably wouldnt recommend it again...
They also seem to charge a fair bit more than others for the same price?

If i got my heads CNC ported id be extreamly happy with 20-30rwkw gain... anything more and id be abit sus..

Kostecki EPIC FAIL....sounds like they like to dish out constant bullshit...not good for the industry and customers here in W.A that get sucked in :bawl:
