Hey everyone, i just signed up today because after tax time i'm planning on buying a VE SS ute. I have a BA XR8 ute at the moment and the problem is when i bought it people where like you should of got the 6 speed instead of the 5 speed and other things like that. blah blah blah, good to know after you have spend so much money.
So im just wanting to get a feel around for anything to look out for when looking at VE SS utes. anything to stay away from stuff like that. Im also wanting it to be a manual.
Thanks guys

Shop around mate...look far and wide for the best deal
These cars have a few problems but are great bang for the buck
Best thing is with a few grand extra you can get some great power from them
Dont know about utes....I have a sedan
M6 is fine but maybe a ripshifter will help....mixed reports about auto
Silver is the best colour :smilesandbanana:
Are you buying new?

I would spend up on a V series because the gauges in the SS are horrible to read IMO. But if you want to use it as a semi serious ute, you might need the slightly extra payload of the SS.

If you get reverse sensors from factory they will show up on your stereo when in reverse, if fitted by the dealer they won't.
Consider the tie down rails, I think they work well and are apparently painful to fit.
Money spent on V will soon diminish when you add up leather and wheel upgrade costs (unless you plan to change).
You can now get AFR Active Fuel Management although some here seem to be concerned about what the exhaust note would sound like with only 4 pots going.
Don't buy the hardlid from holden unless you really like the style, there are some options around that aloot think are better than the holden one.
When you consider I paid 52k for my ute 14mths ago CAPA will now sell you a new ute for the same money with a shitload more power via a blower.

AFM on auto (V8) only, not on manual.

I take it that when you say "..anything I should no" you meant know, as in knowledge? In any case, a friend picked up an SSV ute for $40k drive-away several weeks back and so your budget ought to see you into a new SS I'd expect, especially with the new Holden Owner's Grant being peddled?
Good luck with it.

mm i wasn't considering new, but now maybe i will...
$36k for a new ss seems cheap, i have been looking around the site now aswell and this price seems very achievable.
thanks guys ill keep you posted.
i live in mt Eliza, very close to frankston.

Holden are advertising SV6 ute for $32990 driveaway, so $36,000 driveaway for an SS is a good deal - was that just private, or fleet discount / no GST etc.

Nope....there was a dealer offering one for $35990 down south d/a...rang the dealer i brought my original VE SS sedan from...said can you match the price..$36,000...he rang back 20 mins later to confirm. No trade...no GST off or any funny stuff...$36,000 6 months rego, full tank gas, manual, stamp duty, dealer delivery etc.....
The same dealer are currently advertising VE SS utes at $37,490 d/a special (saying they will negotiate further).....:smilesandbanana:

I would certainly be looking at new over second hand. With the current deals on offer you can pick up new for pretty much what the second hand market is asking.

Ok well my XR8 is gone. So i have been looking around and i think im going to get the SSV ute in manual, hopefully i can get one for around 40. I have had a few emails from people giving me numbers and such. So in the next month to 2 months ill will be going around making inquiries.
If anyone knows good dealers that would be a great help thanks. any where in Vic or NSW

I'm currently in the market for a SS Sedan (auto) in SA. Thought I'd post here rather than starting another topic. Have been looking around constantly, and found a Red M6 Feb '08 SS Sedan with 29000km for $34k.
So you guys seriously reckon I can find myself a brand newie for not much more?! If you've got any contacts, hit me up. When I look at the Holden Owner's Grant details on the website it doesn't specify anything in regards to the SS.
I'll keep an eye out, I guess. I have a fortnight to play with, roughly.

Guys if you can wait till say the last 2 or so weeks of june, that would be the time to deal with these dealers. Trying to pump out as many before the end of the financial year......
