How are ya, I have ve ss ute 09 6 days old 800kms on clock and manual and seems to do the same thing, a little rough on idle, I thought could be crap fuel so ran it right down and filled up on optimax but still the same. I dont know if anything is wrong or its just the cam doin its thing?

Does the car come up with an error message and switch off the ESP?

If so, one of the leads might have come off the plug. This happened to me and a couple of others on here

Got the same in mine. I just put it down to the cam. Used to be worse in the Clubby with a slightly bigger cam. No biggy. Doesn't bother me.

They all shimmy and shake a little. It is to do with the cylinder firing order.

cheers

Some do and some don't. Its all about every cylinder being close to equal. I've tuned some really smooth ones. I remember one VT ex chaser that was the smoothest I've ever seen. I did a balance test on it and the difference from worst to best was 5rpm. The test basically involves cutting fuel sequentially to each cylinder and observing the rpm drop. Idle control is frozen during the process.

I bought a V8 because I liked it hopin and bopin all over the place lol. It seems normal mate, remember you have a 6lt V8 engine in there... Its not a little 2l twin cam subaru

I thought the change in firing order from GenI to GenIII/IV Chevs was meant to IMPORVE the idle quality .. not make it worse. Most GenIIIs I've sat in idle worse than old 350s with 650 vac-sec Holleys.

Yeah mine did this when new but it seemed to start idiling smoother after doing 10000km. What is your instant fuel read out when idiling? It should read between 2.1-2.3 and may sometimes drop to 1.9 though if you have climate control on it will jump between 2.3-2.6 if it is higher than this you might have an issue.

mine does it too
yesterday it coughed enough to make me look at the fuel read out
but i think i was a bit late because the fuel stayed constant once i started to watch it, and it didn't cough again

My ute does the same thing , haven't checked it but I suspect it runs a little on the lean side at idle, has done 7000km now and hasn't got any better. After my warranty issues are sorted will spin it up on the rollers and take alook , some mornings it coughs and splutters.

Nothing to worry about mate, my V6 VP does it too when idling. I quite like it tbh :eyes:

Only one way to fix the problem, rip the cam out and slap in a monster, snarling, beast of a cam to replace it then you know it will be doin what its supposed to!

Mine was quite smooth before cam but still a little shaky..

Just cam it then you wont notice anything.. even if your engine is about to fall out :D :D
