The R word is having an effect, not to mention the effects of having the highest number of different brands per million people in the world.

So much for Ford bumming and blowing a couple of months ago that the Falcon was starting to gain momentum.....looks to me it's gaining momentum in the wrong direction..
How can Ford sustain the factory at this paltry rate

So going off these figures, Ford are only building 2,500 Falcons, 1,000 Territorys and 1,000 utes a month, plus around 500 Falcons for export to NZ etc, it must be pretty quiet on the Ford factory floor at present...
Holden build around 4000 Commodores, 200 Statesman/Caprices and 1,000 utes a month, plus exports of around 3,000 a month to the US and around 3,000 a month to the Middle East, NZ, etc puts Holden in a better position volume wise...

.Obviously not for long if the production output is now more closely aligned with Fords.
I've said it before it's not how much you sell, it's how much you make that ONLY counts.
The GMH Chairman said this morning on 3AW that Holden "burned" (his phrase) a huge amount of cash building all those cars in the last qrt of 2008 and the down days have made production schedules within and with suppliers very difficult, hence the prod cuts to give eveyone some reliability of demand.
By the way, do you know if the March sales in the US was mostly '08 build VE's?

By the way that's 11,200 cars yet the plant is dropping to 310 per day and one shift....which means you need a 36 day month with no weekends

Pretty sure export sales of the VE are down 80% which is the primary reason for the removal of second shift at the Elizabeth plant.
An 80% reduction is sales is quite a lot. From what I am hearing from the Middle East it doesn't suprise me as it has come to a grinding halt.
Hopefully exports pick up soon...

The Dubai economy has collapsed.

Less than 2000 Falcons sold in a month? I never thought I'd see the day - has it ever been that low before?
Commodore is holding up....sort of. But even that sales volume isn't going to be sustainable in the long run. Let's hope that the second half of this year brings two things: a recovering economy and a revised Commodore to capitalise.

Yes. 1200 odd is their lowest monthly record.

Maybe collapsed is too strong however the state has massive debt's and has been asking Abu Dhabi for major assistance. Dubai has the smallest oil reserves and was building it's future ecomony on commerce and tourism, obviously with massive construction programs, all on borrowed money with reduced oil revenue to fund it...Adu Dhabi is it's rich "brother", actually it's the wealthiest of all the emirates.

Wagon is included. Ute is separate.

Don't knock the Holden and Ford sales which are down "only" some 13% to last year (roughly) even though the segment is down by 25%. I hear the big fourbie sales are down more than 33% with Landcruiser sales stalling in Australia with no mines buying them ATM.
As for the rocket science of calculating production from monthly sales you do not have to be Einstein to work out that Holden has very large holding yards with thousands of cars awaiting a dealer order. Also remember last years full throttle production run was to stock up dealers for the G8. The funny part is although there are thousands of vehicles in storage yards you still have to wait for a manual SS ute from the factory.
The good news is that G8 sales are on the up and matching local sales but most of these are from stock already on US soil. The middle east crisis has dented sales and hence production more than anything else.

Aussie car sales may not have been as hard hit like the Japs but they dont rely on the Aussie market to survive.

Ford's big problem is that this is pretty much going to be their sales, bar smallish numbers to New Zealand mostly.

Interststing...I thought the Commodore figures always included the Ute, as they were considered to be Commodore "derivatives" ie, 3544 included Utes.
Has anyone any comment on this?
Cheers, Pickles.

Wagons are included, however ute figures have been counted seperately for as long as I can remember.

That would be good.....to get a FULL individual breakdown of ALL of Holden's sales figures from March...ie, model by model.
Cheers, Pickles.
