VT V8 Questions

since VTs came out with both the 5.0 and 5.7, how hard or feasible would it be to put a 5.7 in a VT that currently has a (dead as of 1 hour ago RIP) 5.0 in it?

what else would need to be swapped over?

would i be better chasing a GENIII or stick to a 5.0?

Shouldn't be too hard at all I'd think, you'd need the LS1 as well as VT2 k-frame, loom & PCM. I guess some of the more knowledgable members on here could tell you if the radiator is different or any other parts. You'd need a new transmission too I guess due to the different bellhousing. That may also mean new tailshaft?

Would definitely be worth it if you could find an LS1 cheap enough.

I did this conversion about 5 years ago now ... from 5L auto to LS1 / 6Spd manual ... we changed the VT steering rack for a VY one, changed the VT fuel tank for a monaro one, all the fuel lines were upgraded, went to VY aircon unit, changed the front suspension to accommodate the less weight, put a new dash in (to match engine kilometres)

Of course, I left it to someone else to do, drive in out just under 9K and 4 days from start to finish - lots of mucking about and fiddly little things.

For that sort of money I'd just sell the car and go buy a 5.7ltr

For 9K i'd think you could get the 5L rebuilt and worked so it would kick an LS1s arse anyway!

now - yes, back then the changeover into an LS1 was much more.

Probably, but reliability and manners go out the window. I have an ill mannered 5L that kills the LS1, but is not an everyday driver.
