hey all , I have been seeking a sump for a l98 engine and was just wondering if the ls1 sump is the same ?
I have been told that ls1 , l76, l98, ls2 and ls3 are all the same sumps but i remember that my ls1 took around 5 litres of oil and the l98 is around 8 litres .
Can anyone give me a definent answer as i have a mate at work that has a ls1 sump for sale ?
cheers
andrew
anyone got any info ?

Hi Andrew,
From researching the net. At this stage I can only find information that relates to the sumps capacity. The sumps all appear to have the same shape and bolt pattern.
The capacity of the L98 and LS2/3 have a greater capacity rating over the earlier models. Why that is I don't realy know, maybe to reduce oil starvation issues on heavy accelleration etc or better longevity of the oil over the scheduled service interval.
Maybe you could search the forum for pics of peoples cars getting exhaust mods done and checking out the sump config...
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.. probably only adding more questions to your quest here.

Basically you can fit what ever LS sump you want to what ever LS engine you have, but at the end of the day you need to fit a pre VE sump in a Pre VE car and a Post VZ sump in a post VZ car.
Notice the position of the hump in the sump.
hope this helps . . . .

Bloody ridiculous isn't it. I like my simple 5L of oil.. I don't even have to measure it out, just poor the whole bottle in.
...the l98 is around 8 litres...
My vehicle manual says 6 litres of oil
