Ive only joined LS1.com recently as i had purchased a 2nd hand VE SSV as I needed a car capable of towing my track car and trailer and something i could use for work . 2.1t towing is great with the auto and even though the VE has a few faults its growing on me slowly and is a good highway eater with the family loaded up .
Ive completed this project and its first track day is at sandown in a few weeks , so ive condensed the build up and posted it here so others have a guide on another option for a track hack.
A few guys from this forum (smitty / budge) know ive been doing club circuit events for the last 7 years and having eaten of few 308's during this period i decided a LS1 would be worth a try . Enter a ex VX SS LS1 and 6 speed and a couple of good friends , my garage and a couple of hammers and job done !.
This is how a picked it up many years ago
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic53.JPG
First mods included a 5 speed supra conversion using a VC V8 pedal box and a little massaging of the firewall ( its now on its 4th supra 5sp) , 2nd hand pedders shocks/springs , HDT extractors ( to suit a manual ) , sway bar upgrade and a 3.45 ratio LSD and quick spin on the dyno pumped a healthy 93rwkw :). Also upgraded the brakes to twin spot corvette calipers and 330mm rotors .
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic9.jpg
The car stayed like this for a couple of years as i just waited for the engine to die , little upgrades included better off set 16's ( always running on R888's) HDT cold air crap , strut brace etc.
Next was the engine rebuild :)
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic54.JPG
Full rebuild with the usual reliability add ons
Ported VL heads , crane rollers , crane solid 272 cam , smoothed valley , performer manifold , holley 650dp , bigger extractors/zorst , acl's new oil pump etc. Made a solid 210 rwkw.
That one lasted a year before oil starvation at PI due to incorrect sump :( , it was rebuilt and lasted 3 events before spinning a bearing . This is where TK and PF came to the rescue and advised on bearing clearences , drain backs , high volume oil pump etc . ( check) and let him do the rest .

Ive overhauled the entire fuel system from boot to engine having ditched the black carter pump and std fuel lines and installing a boot mounted surge tank to a barry grant pump with -8 lines to the carby and -10 returns to the tank .
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic56.JPG
I was able to install the new fuel log and return reg as one between carby and manifold
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic55.JPG
Also at the end of last year fitted bilsteins front and rear along with a hieght adjustable set up.

Fitting one of these
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic62.JPG
Dale from CHE has supplied me with an ignition only loom which should arrive anyday now :) .
T56 is a big gearbox especially compared to the out going W57 supra box .
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic63.JPG
Supra weighed 48 kg's and T56 72 kg's but the flywheel used in the supra was the std holden 308 one and wieghed 15kg! . LS1 is far lighter so maybe only a 15kg difference at the end .
Spent some time dummying up the engine to just see what fits and what doesnt , its actually not a bad fit . The sway bar , crossmember and steering rack all clear with some room to move but not much though about 2cm either way .
engine bay pics

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic65.JPG
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic67.JPG
The plan is to sit the engine as close to the firwall as possible , i can chop out a little of the crossmember if required to gain maybe 2cm .
Engine mounts will be started tommorrow , it doesnt look to difficult but will be time consuming . Im just going to tack them up and get budge to weld / fold something up for me .
Dale from Castle Hill Exhaust modified the loom to ignition only , turned off all the safety's and supplied it all tagged and ready to go . Its a great job and i will highly recommend his services as everyone who's seen the loom has been impressed .
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic69.JPG
He also supplied the rip shifter ( i think of the 9 sec monster! ) and mentioned by reversing the "stick" it will put it in the ball park for the VL body . It required a little welding to turn around but is very easy . Dale even offered to modify it if i couldnt do it ! . It ended up being that the t56 selector is in the perfect spot and i had to simply graft the shifter onto it .
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic71.JPG
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic72.JPG
Ive got a starter conversion kit from Mal Wood , the standard LS1 starter will clear however their isnt any room to run the extractors and its superclose to the rack anyway .
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic70.JPG
After looking at a range of clutches and being a little shocked at the prices ( upto $1700 for a single plate kit ) i figured due to my car being 400 odd kg's lighter than a VE and not doing burnouts a std holden clutch kit should be fine ( im running the std cam for a while) , its was cheap , has everything i need and if i cant hold on its no major loss .
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic68.JPG
Next is engine and gearbox mounts , modifications to the trans tunnel to fit the T56 which has proven to be a bit of a headache and the usual conversion problems that pop up .

Have knocked up and modified the engine and gearbox mounts , clearences are tight and after speaking to mal wood auto driveline angles are critical if you want the extension housing seal to not chew up in the gearbox in a matter of km's .
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic78.JPG
Engine mounts are pretty simple , just had a new plate cut by budge and modified the original VL V8 engine mount to suit . Engine is mounted as low and as far back as possible to the sump / cross member ( about 1 cm clearence all round) .
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic75.JPG
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic79.JPG
Gearbox needs some mods to get to fit , firstly remove ALL and i mean ALL casting bungs / mounts from the gearbox casing
This pic is missing another 5 pieces
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic81.JPG
The gearbox mount is a 6 cyl VL mount with the mount removed from the x member and two holes drilled to accept the T56 mount which uses the 2nd set of locating holes . Pics to come.
Mal Wood starter conversion
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic77.JPG
A bit of clearencing is required to get the plate to fit cleanly but nothing major , however clearing the starter gear is another matter.
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic74.JPG
As you can see a section of the bell housing needs to be removed and this was confirmed by mal wood after purchasing the kit . I dont know if the CRS kit needs the same mofication but worth checking.
Gear shifter is spot on , no issues here and the a std tailshaft from a trimatic VL fits perfect with NO mods .
The trans tunnel on the VL WILL accept the T56 without cutting , however the reverse lock out soleniod needs clearencing of about 1 cm to not foul the tunnel . It is a very very tight fit which requires the clutch lines to be replaced and re routed with some braided line. As a guide the bottom two rear gearbox casing bolts should be in line with the sill(sp?) panel under the car , the box is hanging to low if you can see them
Shifter position in car .

Ive been dealing a bit with high enrgy regarding a circuit spec sump and as they are keen to fit their new LS1 sump into the older shape commo's a deal was struck. Apperently this will fit the VX to VZ shape without modifications.

side pic
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic88.JPG
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic89.JPG
The shear size of the sump extension had me worried as the std sump is a nice tight fit but didnt leave a whole lot of room for a larger unit and sure enough it fowled on the x members where the supports are so i gave it a little clearencing .
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic85.JPG
Next on the list was the extractors , as i mentioned before they are an off the shelf item and i decided to go the 4-2-1's as space is so tight as much room is required as possible.
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic90.JPG
With these pipes you have to relocate the starter motor as its in the way , ive now seen one done in a VS with leaving the factory starter and custom making extractors .
Next is final fitting and adjusting and then start on fuel / ignition etc.

Awesome work, you should be running easy 11s once its all in, if it can hook up off the line, 10s would be easy with a mild cam. Its great seeing all the minor alterations required to make it fit, making it look factory is an art.
You taking this all in BigKev?
I notice you have the passenger seat and door trims, is it a 2 seater for tarmac rallies? Will they be stripped too? Roll cage? Harness seat?
Its light, you could have used a RX7 or MX5 shell, imagine how fast that would be, it would be doing 10s in bolt on trim :D
If its a track warrior, why havent you used solid mounts? Just going by what Ive seen in a LSx track car.

Must say Adam that this is a very interesting little project, I will be watching closely (but not taking any of it in).
Good luck with it.

got rules against using fuel injection, would be easier to tune and log etc
getting body parts for Vl's getting harder?

vt2vx : No rules against EFI ( i quite like it actually ) car is only used for club sprints , it was just a bit of timing that this motor less efi gear popped up at a good price and the aus doller was killing the us so picked up the manifold cheap , should have got the manifold with the efi bosses drilled in though ( my mistake ).
speedy , its pretty stripped ( about 200kg ) taken out and cage aat the end of the year .
Few more parts fitted , just waiting to get the extractors back from being HPC coated . The pipes required some creative bending with an oxy to help clear the floor and the drivers side rail , the arent a bolt in but are close enough for a back yarder to fiddle with them to clear most problems. The do sit pretty much on top of the crank angle sensor so some heat wrapping of the loom is a must along with a the starter motor wires .
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic92.JPG
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic93.JPG
As you can see from the pics that with the manifold on it sits quite high requiring a hole in the bonnet and scoop which isnt a problem for me as its a track car anyway , the factory EFI system wouldnt have any dramas clearing bonnet heights . I do have a 1 inch spacer fitted in those pics but even without it it would be a close call .
adam
Should be a runner in a few weeks as im waiting on parts a few little things to finish it.
Fitted in the std radiator which is a 4 core jobbie in the car and bought the factory VY radiator hose fit and with a little shortening fits just fine . Holden in their wisdom left the rad in/outs for the V8 commo's in the same spot just to suit conversions how thoughtful ( or lazy ).
Ive got one of the old school autometer temp sensors with that rather large fitting that taps into the manifold on the holden 5ltr , its not very modern but works and i wasnt going to change it so had to find a place to jam it in . Hello heater outlet on water pump :)
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic100.jpg
That solves the water issues , now onto getting the coil packs to fit nicely . Clearence issues with the last coil pack and the brake booster surfaced as i have set the motor as far back and low as possible , im sure most people fitting the LS1 will have the same prob as it can only move a few cm's for and aft due to sump restriction . Ive managed to tilt and lower the last coil pack a little which gives enough room to allow for the motor to torque up without hitting anything.
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic101.jpg
This week will be modifying the dash as the factory guages have been made redundent , the LS1 wont talk to the rev tach , i have no speedo drive anymore as T56 is electronic , water temp is a guage and so is oil pressure .Will wire up the loom as all the other wiring for starter and alternator is complete . Shifter is finished and is ready to go along with wiring up reverse lights and lock out soloniod.

Great effort. I've been thinking about this option for a while myself. I'm eager to hit the circuit again & i think the VL makes a great lightweight weapon.

not sure what your costs were but could have grabbed a ls6 manifold and injectors and rails for $400 approx. been a few on here but then you would need the pcm as well then tune it up. would get a better smoother delivery of power with injection over carby and no jet changing required to suit conditions.
anyway will still be a fun package.......

Dale ( CHE )sent down a modified loom for me to get it ready to go and withing a few pumps of the holley it fired into life and settled to a nice idle , its missing a TPS ( fitting this week) so its a little fluffy to drive and im only putting around anyways . Its had a decent miss/back fire under light to medium throttle openings but seems to clear up the more i drive it and im really not worried untill the last sensor is wired up.
Its pretty exciting getting it to fire for the first time , always the concern of what ive forgot to do ! . Within a week or two it will hit the dyno and ill get it sorted , btw stock LS1's dont really sound that nice straight out of the extractors .
Everything works on new dash

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic106.JPG
Rev tach needs to be set to 4 cyl mode to work with the LS1 puter, hence the aftermarket job.
Havent got the car above 85 degrees to turn on the thermo yet as i think they go on at 90?? .
Gearshift is spot on and hydraulic clutch is way to light , im used to cable plus heavy clutch.
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic103.JPG
Little things to do are
fit bonnet vent / scoop ( proberly walky one )
lower engine another 7mm ( easy done , can adjust engine mount)
track down small slave cylinder leak ( dammmmmm )
profit??

Finished setting up the TPS switch and the difference is impressive , engines like timing!! .
Another big thanks to dale (castlehillexhaust) for some questions answered on saturday regarding the TPS . The switch is from a 2.6 magna and is faily compact 3 wire switch which isnt hard to adapt to the Holley carby , quickly set it to read .50 amp on idle and away we go .
Quick spin around the block and while it doesnt turn the tyres of idle like the old 5.0 it really gets going up top and loves a rev . Its strong(ish) low in the rev range for a LS1 but thats due to the VL waying stuff all , should be around 1190kg when finished. Its also very responsive with the carb , revs up quicker than the EFI version does .
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic108.JPG
Finished , but fuel lines will be re made this week for more clearence .

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic107.JPG
Things to complete before dyno .
Ive had to re wire the thermos as its a negative trigger from the computer so still need to check if it works.
Ive also managed to fry the alternator by accident , dam. I unplugged the wire that tells the dash light their isnt any voltage and it must have earthed on the body so alternater isnt charging and no dash light at all . Most likely the regulator .

Hey dale , cars going strong as but had to end up heat shielding the CAS plug as extractors are trying their best to melt the bloody thing!.
Tanka , its got a std 650dp and its just too small for the std LS1 . It made an easy 215rwkw but at anything over 3.5k revs its getting over 1psi-2psi manifold vacuum as the carby just cant supply enough airflow for the engine . Im chasing down a Holley HP 750 as we trialled one on the car without tuning it and it picked up another 15rwkw .

yeh thought 650 would be to small, good work on doin something different. wot is that knock link thing on your dash?
adamRSLC
29-04-2009, 08:33 PM
Tanka , knock link is from my old turbo car , its an external knock reader that i can tune to a specific engine .
Glad to be finished the first event i must say , plenty of hours spent at tyrepower reservoir in the last week . The day went very well , first a 1.26.4 was reeled of quite easily just using the top end HP of the new combo . Engine ran well , no breathing/fumes/oil or rods looking for daylight . Car has a different power band compared to the 5ltr but dale put a good tune in it so ran spot on all day , you can notice when it runs out of carby as the power whilst strong tapers a little over 4k revs .
Only problems was a selector issue which i sorted quickly and a broken exhaust hanger , so im a happy man . Handling is a bit average atm as the 5ltr set up hasnt really transfered over well to the lighter LS1 but its ball park so a spring change and maybe fitting a rear bar might help it turn in better .

[/COLOR]Update time .
Completed the Phillip Island 6 hour last august under team "AutoCure Motorsport " with sponsers Tyrepower Reservoir and Procal Dairies , what a massive event! . Having never completed in a regularity before it was a big learning curve with consistant reliable speed being the objective and outright pace not required .
The LS1 performed perfectly with the only issue being a drive belt falling off in practice , come race day it belted out close to 40laps all between 2.02 ( nominated time ) and 2.05 . It used on average 2 litres of fuel per lap and i kept top speed down to about 200km/h down the front straight .
Being the first time our team has entered we didnt dail in the correct lap time for a few cars and the reulting penalty laps killed our overall result coming in 27th out of 50 entrants .
DJ354 was also competing with his team and happened to be next door and i think finished up overall higher than ourselves , i even managed to find him on the track at one stage but as their was a heap of white corollas im not sure if it was him !.

Best thing is that is now reliable , the 308 that was in it was on its 4th build in 4 years and the LS1 ( 150,000km old ) has now done over 100 laps and only needs some valve springs as they have softened up .

Thanks gen4 , suspension tune is a little off atm as the lighter LS1 has mucked up the balance so a softening of the springs is required . Future plans are to blow up the LS1 and either replace it with a cammed up LS1 or switch to a L98 , both have pros and cons .

adamRSLC
10-03-2010, 04:03 PM
Beachrat , i used a VL 6 cyl pedal box ( you will use the same ) as it bolts in to the VH firewall . As for master cyl I used the 6 cyl VL master and in my case VX slave cylinder/ throut out bearing i was lucky enough to have some spare brake line with fittings that matched the two clutch cylinders , bit of a pain to bleed as its tight to get at the T56 bleeder but not impossible . The clutch is super light due to the different master cylinder but is livable .
If you using a starter relocation kit you "MUST" get the throwout bearing spacer as they werent available as ive got an early kit which results in a high take up point for the clutch , it sucks a little but ill fit one when i change engines ( if this thing ever blows up ! ).

Good stuff mate, 50rwkw aint bad at all for cam only. Sucks bout the sump gasket, i had to replace mine in my last car so i know how much of a pain it is to replace. Should bring the vl round to my work one day instead of the milk truck;)

If you using a starter relocation kit you "MUST" get the throwout bearing spacer as they werent available as ive got an early kit which results in a high take up point for the clutch , it sucks a little but ill fit one when i change engines ( if this thing ever blows up ! ).

Thanks for the info Adam. I have the throwout spacer, so that should be ok. Would a smaller bore master help with the light clutch problem? maybe re-sleeve to smaller piston?? just a thought....As I work through my build I will post info also.

Yep , it needs a smaller bore . I can deal with mine and i use a std holden clutch , a heavy/stronger clutch would put up more resistance and feel more " normal " . Fit it first and if you dont like it then modify it.
Ill keep an eye out for your build up , any quest/probs just ask .
Ill be helping out with a L98 VH track car soon anyway .

Ok bit of an update since our team bathurst 2010 fosc reg event .
Team Autocure entered the bathurst Fosc event at easter this year and along with a few menbers from here and myself made the big 8-9 hour drive to the mountain from melbourne. An excellent 4 day event for club level cars and an experience not to be matched anytime soon .
The VL was sent to lakeside automotive in reservoir where a 2nd hand 224/228 @ 113 cam found its way into the engine bay along with some beehive springs to replace my very sad std ones . Net gain of 50 rwkw was plenty over the std camshaft .
Car was sent next door to Killer bodyworks where a general tidy-up and the addition of a group a kit was added in the hope it would stop the car lifting up over conrod at top speed ( didnt really help but better than nothing )

PI 6 hour update time .
This event ill say again is the best form of racing a level L2S licence holder can do , its extremely well organised , competitive and tests both driver and car far more than what a normal track day ever will .
Once again special mention to fatz and jenna for making the trip down from NSW and running very well all day and to DJ345 who by now must be sick of watching all our commo's go round whilst he is the process of restoring his one .
Team autocure after learning lots from our first event had the right mind set from the start ( well i wanted to set a new PB within the rules and banged out a 1.56.9 in traffic :) ) and ran fast and consistantly to finish an outright 4th from 50 team entries with minimal mechanical issues .
My commo ran perfectly from start to finish and im loving having a reliable and fast engine as i can stop watching the oil pressure guage like a hawk and focus on driving . I had softened the car all round to get it to work the tyres faster and it worked a treat . Its not that far off now from where i want it , just need some more front end turn in and reduce some corner exit push .
Also refitted a modified clutch master ( up from 14 to 19mm bore ) to suit the T56 throw out bearing which i picked up from BPM on PF as none of the brake/clutch shops down in melbourne i contacted said it could be done . It worked great , did not miss one shift all day and can smash it as hard as i feel like from 2/3 with the rip shifter and no crunching . Its made it a heap easier to drive .

Must say the couple of stangs pictured along with the rest of their team had close dial in times to our team and their driving was brilliant , they had heaps of grunt ( the red one pictured was the only car that could brake the tow i was getting when i chased him down the front straight ) but drove using their mirrors so not to chop anyone , wish a certain turbo dak dak driver did the same .
See you their next year .

Also looking at upgrading the engine at the end of the year , looked at L98 options and a change to EFI but i might as well start again and sell off the LS1 conversion as everything thing has to be changed except the extractors/starter motor .
Looked at EFI on the LS1 , wouldnt take a huge amount but need to source an injector loom and completely re-do the fuel system and locate manifold/inj/rails/reg
Most likely course of action is a set of ported 243 heads a change of exhaust ( its a 2.5inch sytem street system atm ) and a retune to suit . It doesnt need anymore power but if some is available how could you not ?
adam
Got a pic of the new daily/towcar/companycar which is due in a few weeks and ive made a change to my first ford after owning about 6 commo's and 3 subaru's .
This car replaced my VE SSV which i had for a couple of years which i didnt really like as soon as i bought it . Compared to the commo the falcon is really very good bar the rear end grip / drive which the commo easily beats .
pic of new hotness
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic149.jpg
As always its got a couple of toys thrown in , leather , rear camera , trans oil cooler , tech and safety packs . The turbo six is a great engine plenty of mid range and good topend power , auto is as good as they all say and the only drama being rear end power down is quite poor even with traction on as its wants to fry the rear tyres .
AS with most cars i own a few select mods will be carried out , first is a set of those dark grey F6 wheels , a heavy duty tow bar and a reflash to find those hidden powers and a belt down the 1/4 to see if they really go high 12's with minor mods .

Handling is a bit average atm as the 5ltr set up hasnt really transfered over well to the lighter LS1 but its ball park so a spring change and maybe fitting a rear bar might help it turn in better .
adam
Have you changed the spring rates? Were you not running a rear sway bar? What have you put in to achieve better handling with the lighter engine?

Not quite smitty , i do all the wrx club days (which im a member ) as they are a well run event and generally are incident free days ( no oil downs etc ) . Nothing against the holden club , but the track days are run by FFCC .
Stocker GTS , std clutch hasnt missed a beat , remember that my car comes in at 1200kg so its not quite the land yacht of the current commo's . Also its only used for the track these days so no burn outs , drag work etc .
Coasty , as with most track cars as funds allow you always play with parts of the car and handling is usually the 2nd point of call after your new found horsepower wont help it turn at the first hint of a corner . Ive softened the car up with spring rate and played with adjustable sway bars to get it to turn and my 2nd last event at winton made some big gains ( 1.37.7) but the diff started to drive only one wheel but it handle great .
So returned to winton fitted a spooled diff and improved to a 37.2 but it handled like a dog ( again) with entry understeer ( locked diff) and some pretty aggressive mid corner oversteer but excellent corner exit . Played around with the front bar and helped it but not solved it , ive since found the problem and looking forward to my next track day at sandown in july .

ps not all track days are FFCC run
AFAIK the clubs alternate race directors for sprint days
the only constant appears to be Darren from FFCC who acts as secretary for all events

So been getting stuck into this lately as im changing to EFI for shits and giggles ,
Sent dale my old loom which he is adding the injection loom too and sending it down with a fuel rail .
After have a quick chat to justin (KE26wgn) ive ordered the filter/reg from summit along with the required fittings to make it work .
LS6 manifold / throttle body and injectors from a VY ( i think)
Grabbed a throttle cable from VX and some inlet manifold gaskets .
Ive got the factory fuel line refitted and in the process of getting an undercar surge tank fabbed up to go with the 044 pump im getting for it .
Manifold bolted down and cable fitted
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic178.jpg
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic179.jpg
Side view , its sits far lower than the carb inlet manifold and is 12kg lighter than the old carb/manifold
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic180.jpg
3rd prototype of surge tank , maybe one more revision
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~acaddeo/mypic181.jpg
Should be all back together in about 3 weeks ready for sandown at the end of september . Im not sure if it will make anymore hp than the carb setup but will make more mid range torque no doubt , i can also lean on the tune far more as ive got better control over it . We ran the carby pretty fat when we set it up and took it easy with the timing .

Adam (that's a good name you've got their:D ) , headers are castle auto and are 1 3/4 primary and 2 inch secondary leading into a 2 1/2 inch outlet . Rest of the system is on off the shelf 2.5 to 3 inch road legal system . The extractors aren't a perfect bolt in but some bending with an oxy will achieve the clearance you require and a good option unless you want something custom made up .

Yeah apparently you have to use Pacmakers engine mounts etc. I have seen a set that had to be cut and re welded on every exhaust port on the drivers side so i wasn't that impressed. I have seen CAE ones that don't fit either, however I can not complain about mine at all. I personally inspected another set in a VL that didn't fit right but the reason was the engine mounts plates on the block put in back the front and upside down. Put them around the right way and the extractors fitted perfectly. I wonder how much of this occurs.

Had my first track day in this at sandown on the 24th and had a very good day , a few fuel system / tuning relates issues but minor problems . I ended up going with the same set up drscrote's jaaaaag LS1 and justins (ke26) LS1 HQ , using the external filter/reg from summit and push on fittings ( btw VPW sell the male quick connect in 3/8 for the filter outlet ) and it works a charm , its very neat under the car and only one feed line required to go to the rail . Fuel pressure guage is bang on 58 psi , actually it was 65psi and climbing and after some head scratching and worried looks a partially blocked return line was at fault ( in the factory tank ) .
Ariel from red star fabrications knocked up the surge tank for me and did a great job , version 2 is now being completed and will fit early VB-VL commo's with fuel line modifications and will be set up for 2 044's . It all mounts under the floor and infront of the diff so no fuel smells in the cabin , it doesnt sit lower than the floor so little chance of being damaged and still able to get at all bolts/servicable items .

The car made it to the dyno with a day to spare and now makes 255rwkw with a gain of about 30rwkw from 2-5k revs , also has a working rev limiter set to 6500 :) . The tune is still a little / lots out as we are still in our infancy in using HPtuners , dale who is not a **** has helped fix our shitty effort and im just waiting to flash it in ( friday i hope ) to see the gains . I cant recommend sideshow and dale enough when playing with LS1's as over the last few years he has been happy to help with the silly questions i come up with .
