G'day all just wondering if anyone out there could give me their opinion on a good brand of vehicle hoist.
I'm chasing a 2 poster with overhead cables and wiring (don't want any thing on the floor) with SWL of aroung 4000kg.
I have read that some manufacturers build their hoist with an offset in the main posts to give better acces to the drivers door or something, is this of much benefit.
Any feed back or contact details of companies that sell these would be great. Cheers.

I have a molnar 2 poster, apart from the valve sticking cars in the air that are over 3.2 tonne a couple of times, and having to chase and chase and chase them to fix it properly, its ok, the other Molnars have worked fine. Get the offset legs, they make vehicle access easier whilst on the hoist.
Repco do some great deals before end of financial yr on equipment.

Ive installed hundreds of these things and only had a problem with a couple of switches, They would be one of the better hoists on the market. What problems are you having with them?
I personally wouldn't buy a molnar. Asymmetrical hoists are the go, just be carefull where you position the lift arms, ive seen people position the car too far back..........They fall off ive got some pictures here but I dont know how to upload them.

no you can buy single phase motors for most hoists i just put a single phase motor on an old molnar that i have at home which was previously 3 phase and it work fine.

I'm looking for one myself and so far I have seen that an aussie google search for car hoist gives a lot of choice. www.superhoistplus.com has an intresting product I hadn't seen before, a single post hoist. A little exy tho at $6400. On the cheaper side two posters seem to be able to be had for as little as $2400.
You might want to get a copy of "Just Parts" magazine too. They have a mob who regularly advertise all kinds of workshop gear (transmission hoist, small sand blast units, tyre changers etc.) and they do a pretty economical two poster. Its probably chinese so... yeah, I think I'd rather stand under an aussie made unit too, but worth seeing whether they comply to aussie or international standards.
The other thing we are looking at is industrial clearance sales and auctions. Companies like www.graysonline.com.au regularly have good secondhand stuff. You just have to be ready to go get it yourself.
Let us know how you go and I'll post up what we find. Good Luck :)

Fair enough, I have alot of customers who are the same way. Rotary have redesigned the switch and thats not so much of an issue. ive only ever had to reseal one cylinder and that was because they never installed an o ring at the factory.

The super hoist is not a bad option, but remember you get what you pay for, good for at home in low use applications not good for a workshop.

As hazard said, all hoists can be converted to single phase, if buying new its normally an option, bend pak and rotary are no cost options, molnar charge an extra 1000 dollars.

Molnar MF1705
Crappy arm locks, pedantic to service ( always need arm lock repairs, and roller bushes are plastic and require regular replacement, valve bodies regularly allow the hoist to "creep", hydraulic pipes vibrate on posts, they are only good for 3 tonne. I could go on but I wont)

Good point to make. I was assuming that the OP was talking about a personal hoist. You got me thinking now how often I would use one. After the project car is done, even with my three daughters cars and our two I reckon I would still only be hoisting... maybe 50 times a year at the outside...? That shouldn't require anything too flash I guess, just something safe.

Have a look at tru lift, they are a cheap hoist that are well made and most importantly nice and safe.

What about Tecalemit?
Guess the only downsides to those is that they are a bit expensive and 3 phase only.

they are the only hoist in my book. Never seen a screw hoist drop a car like I have cable over hydraulics....all good unless you are standing under it when it happens.
Got three Techs and 1 Molnar.

Great info fellas, I haven't heard of some of these brands before, so i'll be doing some more looking around.
The hoist will be for personal use so it won't be used too much, but I don't want a cheap piece of crap that I am worried about standing under.
I was looking at the bendpac units they seem to be good quality but like other people on here I would prefer to buy something aussie made.
Another thing I am wondering is if any of the companies make them low enough to go under lowered cars.
after seeing fast and furious last night, i know that vin diesal can drop an engine and then grab and hold its full weight on a chain with one hand :goodjob:

Ive just finished building a barn style shed on my block and want to fit a hoist. Looking for a 2 poster that will lift my Patrol and be stable and safe with a 4WD on it. Preferably a new one. Single phase would be good.
Anything tricky in a DIY install? Any legalities to commissioning one? I have a 150 thick slab in the bay that the hoist will go in.
PM your response if you like. :goodjob: Im in SA but have good freight contacts.
cheers
Andrew

i can do a very good 4 ton clear floor hoist at a very good price with 2 years warranty
patrol no probs and safe need 4.0 meters of roof height and can do single phase but 3 phase would be faster for you give me a call and i will send you some flyers on the brands. :)

Sorry to thread mine - But does anyone know if Tecalemit do thier Hoists with Single phase? for us poor blokes that dont have 3 phase.
I was thinking of getting 3 phase but the cost is too prohibitive, so Im stuck with the single phase unfortunantly
