I was at a party on the weekend where most people at the party had fleet vehicles. (Mainly VE Commodores).
As I am thinking about getting a VF(essentially a VE with upgrade) I thought I would ask them what they thought of the VE.
Strangely I was getting very similar answers.They all seem to be happy with the way it drives and looks,but on the negative side besides the usual gripe about the V6 being too noisy under hard acceleration the one thing I was hearing over and over which surprised me is they complained of the cheap hard plastic interior.
They were saying that if they scuff the plastic they cannot get the mark off and after a while in looks dreadful.
Now these people are not car people so I am not sure if they are being picky or not.Since you guys are car people I was wondering if you guys that have VE's can confirm this perception of poor quality interior plastics.
As I am looking at purchasing a VF and have a couple of kids,if this thing with the interior is true it would make me start to go cold on the idea of a VF.(As I am quite fussy with my car and try to keep it in mint condition)

the upper part of the door trims mark easily they have a dimpled golf ball like vinyl finish but not too hard too clean, they are prone to pressure dings which cant be fixed. as for the rest of the interior, early ve's suffered build quility probs but a lot better now. and are no different in maintenence compared to earlier models. they have a darker finish which is why your
w-mates? see the marks. also dont hold your breath for the vf

Dont be lulled into a false sense of security that they would choose a different chemical receipe for the plastics, thus making them harder and more resiliant to scuffs. It'll be the same stuff different moulding.

I have one of the first VE's (and AUG 06) and can say that the plastics have held up rather well, its the stupid fake seude stuff on the doors and glove box that sucks - but thats since been ditched from what I've seen.

If you like to look after your cars then you will be fine. No different if you drag heavily your boot across the door trim of a Bently to the Commodore, they'll both mark - if need be replace the trim, I know which one will be cheaper.

As for the engine, well I actually don't mind the A'tech on song, its only a bit painfull if you catch it in the wrong gear though..

if they have the omega/belina interior it looks ordanary but the sv6/ss and calais interior is much better. hsv is better again, the bottum of the doors does scratch easy if your not careful with your shoes getting in and out. can be cleaned off though just requires work.

I don't really like the hard plastics they use in the interior, especially the plastic on the door trip near your feet. As Monaro327 stated, it scratches easily, but can be cleaned.
I am always really careful not to kick this section went getting out of the car. It's not a major issue though. I just bought my car so am still very protective of it.

I have had to replace a few interior bits on my newly aquired VE(omega)..The last owner must have had feral kids!..or had a plastic carving fetish!

Apart from the "taking care" factor..to my mind..the VE interior parts are much more susepable to damged than the earlier models.
I think Holden went for "the look" rather than worring about the durability.

At least the parts were not too expensive.

"A" pillar suround $35
"C" Pillar suround $55
Passager side dash stip $44.

The only issues I've had is that the drivers' armrest is 'marked' where I've been leaning on it, and there's some scuff marks where people have dragged their feet getting in and out of the rear.

I have the same drama in my new ute, scratchin the plastics with my work boots. thought of some solutions like follows:
1. remove work boots BEFORE entering ute. {im too lazy}
2. Put up with the scratches. {Looks like crap}
3. Just get trimmers to cover all in leather! {Brilliant Idea!}

Same could be said for anyone buying black cars...:hide:

Everyone goes for the look these days, and i do agree the ve's feel alot more fragile than the last ones inside.

Sorry, completely off-topic question here..

You do realise that there is only one 'r' in Heron, right?

Oh, and with regard to the thread.. I'm pretty happy with the interior in mine, I like the look of it better than my VY SS Interior.
Mine's still fairly new, but I wouldn't say the plastics are ultra crappy. Obviously with kids you're gonna run in to a few more problems, though..
