Hey all. Looking at getting into an LS1 VYII SS or VZ Calais very soon. Been looking at a few cars for sale online, many of which have around 100,000km or a little bit more under their belt.
What should i look out for on cars with this sort of mileage? I guess by this stage they would have been through new rotors, pads, shocks?

Thanks for the link mate. Looks like they are a strong motor. Guess in the end it comes down to how the previous owner maintained it, like any other car.
I've only owned Jap cars which needed a timing belt change at 100,000km. I understand the LS1 has a timing chain. Does it need to be changed or serviced at all?

sold my ute with 130,000 on it, never had any problems at all with it, as long as it s been serviced regularly and looked after i don't think you'll have any major problems and no the timing chain won't need changing.....not until your cam goes in hint hint :)

I would strongly recommend looking for oil leaks, although changing gaskets on these engines can be more like maintainance than repairs. On mine, i have done the head gaskets, rear main seal, and the rear cam seal, and it still looses a drop now and then!

Is there an online copy of the service book anywhere, so i can see what needs to be done (or what should have been done) at every service interval?
And are the service intervals 10,000km for the LS1 donk?

Looks like that guy was unlucky, guess it could happen to any motor.
What psi range should the cylinders be showing as i'm thinking of getting a compression test done on whatever car i buy, before i actually buy it of course.
