Hi all,
-got an OBD2 cable from Ebay, and the only PC software i can get it to work with is ScanTool for Windows, which while functional, lacks all the cool features of Digimoto or EfiLive, like virtual dashes and data logging.
Has anyone had this problem before? It's a USB cable, with a Serial emulator running on com7 at 38400 baud. I can't seem to get it to connect using EFILive, OBD2SPY or Scan Master. I'm not sure if it works with Digimoto or not because it doesn't support a trial period, and I'm not really willing to pay for it until i know it will work with my cable.
The help file on EFILive suggests i try a different serial emulator driver, but i've tried the windows one, and the latest one from the manufacturers website and neither will work with EFILive, but both still work with ScanTool.
-cheers

What car are you scanning? If its a Gen III/LS1 PCM then it wont work with EFILive.
Im assuming its based on an ELM chipset. Try checking out PCMSCAN. Its not free though but you can try the demo and it will show data.
Also it is better to get a J1850VPW or so cable as you can use it with many things. They have come down alot in price.

Cheers for the reply mate,
According to the ScanTool software that does work, my interface is an ELM327. The latest version of the software won't work because it says it's not genuine. It says the protocol is SAE J1850 VPW, which i think is just the GM protocol, but my cable is apparently compatible with all the protocols.
I'm using it on my car, the LS1 WH 99/2000 model
-Will give PCMSCAN a go and let you know how it works,
cheers
Cheers for the software tip mate.
PCMSCAN seems like quite a nice program, but it's hard to tell exactly what it can do, as most of the features don't work in the evaluation version. The only parameter i can get a data read out for at all is engine rpm.
The registered versions are quite expensive too, $30 for the virtual dash only software and $100 for the full version. Still not too expensive I guess, but it would be nice to at least have a 1 week trial period so you knew exactly what you were paying for.
Have you found other means of downloading as with a quick search it seems to be out there. At least you'll be able to try before you buy **cough** (if "they" work)

Or just pay for a proper V1 or V2 EFILive Scan Tool.
There was a Tune and Scan tool in the forsale section for $340

And worth every cent hey mate. These free OBDII ap's are utter crap after you've had the best being EFI LIVE.

Wait, clarification please. I'm not sure about if EFILive should work with my car or now.
Does EFILive not work with LS1 engines, or is it that EFILive only works with EFILive brand cables (Not ELM cables like mine)?

Yes, you were told a number of times previously, certainly at least once by me, that to get the tuning software, such as EFILive and VCM Suite to function, you HAVE to buy the proper serial cable, etc.
They developed the software and have obviously developed proprietary components that will be required, if you wish to work with their OS.
cheers
