Hi,
I know there was a thread on this before but cant seem to find it now.
Does anyone know what the sizes of the sway bars are on VE V8 sedans are?
I think they where 16mm front and 18 rear but not 100% sure i also remember the HSV rear sway bar being slightly bigger.
Also i wanted to get some feedback on anyone who has put bigger swaybars on there VE and if they thought there was a big improvement such as car sitting a lot flatter around corners, what sizes they upgraded to?

whiteline do them adjustable and non adjustable, think rough cost was about 260 each. available thru pedders and most suspension shops
fronts may go upto 30 mm and rear 22mm
think stock sedans are 25 mm front and 18 on the rears.
excesive has them on his ride and is very happy.

yeah that thread went as it was part of the Pedders South Melbourne store or whatever coz Pedders corporate jumped on board.
yes i do have the Whiteline Adjustable sway bars on mine.
from memory, so i COULD be wrong.
but stock HOLDEN VE V8s (HSV are different) have:
front: 22mm
rear: 18mm
Whiteline Adjustable:
front: 26mm (4 adjustments)
rear: 20mm and 22mm (3 adjustments)
I went for the 20mm for the rear as Brad @ WA Suspensions and i thought the 22mm in the rear would be too big and create alot of oversteer/too taily
the fronts are set to full hard on the sway bar to overcome the understeer at the track and the rears set to middle as we will notch the rear up to full hard if it needs more but may risk making it taily.
as for sitting flatter etc...YES
it definately tracks round corners better and with more ease and less body roll.
havent been out to a track day with them in and hopefully car will be ready from panel beaters for the AHG LS1 track day we have on the 9th of May

The sizes for standard V8 are 23mm front 18mm rear.
HSV are the same on the front as SS, SS-V etc, but the HSV rear was increased to 20mm for better turn in. Lowering spring/shocks or complete coilover set up would be better than swaybar mods - all depends on whether you want to lower the car at all. Bear in mind you will want a little body roll to help the tyres bite into the road.

I am not sure about the HSV Sedan front sway-bar thickness. However, the VE HSV Utes have a 24mm front bar (not sure of the rear). see a previous post about sway-bar D-bush replacement. http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=98223&highlight=sway+bar+bush&page=2 #25
The SS, SSV have a 23mm front bar as indicated above and confirmed based on recent revised D bushes being replaced. The rear bar is pretty thin, I havn't measured it... The wifes VY V6 executive has a thicker front sway-bar than may SSV, its all original, go figure..

Thanks for the replys guys.
Yeah i will also be lowering the car but not a huge amount as i still want the smooth ride quality over bumps. I got a good price on peddars fitted roughly 15-20mm lower than stock FE2. I couldnt justify paying 4 times more for coil overs, i know there a lot better but i would rather spend the money i saved on power increase mods.
If i decided only to replace the front or the rear sway bar which would be the best one to replace?

Hi guys.....we have done an enormous amount of R&D on VE Commodore because it is not only a popular vehicle here in Aus but is also the main vehicle (G8 there) for our USA business that has only been operating for a few years. We normally push the "shocks and springs first" wheelbarrow with most car mods but the VE responds better than most cars with sway or anti-roll bars and also bushes......maybe even a match for shocks and springs in terms of mods that will transform the car (did I really say that???). Pedders has listed a 26mm SportsRyder bar (option of fixed and adjustable) for the front and option of 20 and 22mm SportsRyder bars (also option of fixed and adjustable) for rear. Also 30-odd Pedders Stores are also Whiteline Performance Centres so have access to this product range......so we have a few options on sway bars!!! In terms of only fitting one? Avoid it if you can.

what does pedders recommend 20 or 22mm for the rear? i agree in my sv6 the rear gets much looser then the front when pushed.

For a VE really depends - 20mm will give more of a neutral feel, 22mm more rigidity at rear so prone to more oversteer in rear.....22 adjustable would be my personal choice. Note that for Monaro SV6 the bars we list are (SportsRyder) Front 30mm fixed and adjustable and for Rear 18mm fixed and adjustable and also 20mm fixed. Also got the Whiteline options available thru selected Pedders stores.

SPbased on my experience 22m adjustable in the rear would be too much for the rear of the car
if the 20mm at full hard doesnt give enough oversteer for around corners then the right peddle will do the job

I want the car to keep a relatively stock feel in regards to ride quality. I do a few track days so I am wanting to improve the handling around tight corners. At the moment I feel at higher speeds around tight corners the cars seems to get a lot of body roll, which I would like to reduce. As soon as it comes time to replace my tyres they will also be replaced with wider rubber atm undecided about the front size maybe 35/255 but will put 35/285 on the rear so that should also give it more grip

I want the car to keep a relatively stock feel in regards to ride quality. I do a few track days so I am wanting to improve the handling around tight corners. At the moment I feel at higher speeds around tight corners the cars seems to get a lot of body roll, which I would like to reduce. As soon as it comes time to replace my tyres they will also be replaced with wider rubber atm undecided about the front size maybe 35/255 but will put 35/285 on the rear so that should also give it more gripconsidering i have tested each stage of my suspension along the way with great support of WA Suspensions i can tell you this.
Steps i would recommend are:
1)
lowered springs and adjustable shocks if your budget is not huge (Lovells and some KYB)
if u have a decent budget then coilovers will give u stock like handling everyday and then turn into decent track feel and performance (Teins with shorter bump stops and upgraded front springs)
2)
castor rod (helps with movements in the front suspension under breaking) and rear void bushes (help tighten rear end K frame, reduce tramp, help with power down) Super Pro Bushes
3)
whiteline front and rear adjustable sway bars
as i said i went 26mm front and 20mm rears and my reasons i have stated above
option 2 can be forgotton or swapped for 3) if u have minimal budget and want the most bang for your buck

bit of an old thread, but I am wondering if someone can confirm the standard size front and rear sway bars for VE Hsv, from my research sway bars are worth a swap but the white line ones are 26mm front and 22mm rear, now I can see much gain if there standard ones are a mm or two smaller and seems like a waste of money. some more feedback would be good, thanks
