They are illegal. I doubt you will be told to remove it when your rego check is done but the cops and insurance companies don't like em.
phew, i thought this was going to be another fog light thread!!
go carbon fibre :)

If they are ADR approved I think they are fine. apparantly there is a mob up here in Qld that make an ADR approved one

If they are ADR approved I think they are fine. apparantly there is a mob up here in Qld that make an ADR approved oneI very much doubt it. There is no way that a glass or carbon bonnet can be made to simulate the controlled crumple and energy absorption of a standard bonnet. Unless someone has been able to do a documented ADR crash-test on them there is no way any of them can be made to comply. End of story.
Yes agreed Seldo, Considering the technology of cars today I wouldn't be surprised the bonnet it's self is part of the frontal controlled crumple zone. I would doubt that even with sufficient metal framing within a carbon/glass fiber, the bonnet would even compensate and be ever covered in an ADR crash test;)

I think savage f/glass used to offer a metal bonnet skinned with a fibreglass shell but had issues with the epoxy that held them on. Not sure whether that is technically a legal way of doing it or not though...

Than wouldn't a Ferrari or Lambo be "illegal" if it didn't comply, therefore be unable to be sold in Aus? PS Got done for leaving my foggies on the other night in SA lol.

No, because they have been crash-tested in that form and ADR'd. If someone was prepared to go to the trouble of ADR crash-testing a car fitted with a glass/carbon bonnet, it may comply......but then again it might not pass either....
I'm not saying they wouldn't pass (although doubtful), it's just that they haven't been tested and are therefore illegal.
PS Got done for leaving my foggies on the other night in SA lol. I guess some people are just slow learners.....

Well it was my fault. It was foggy driving out of Adelaide and I figured fcuk it, leave 'em on. Wasn't foggy out of Adelaide though.

Its a good choice in the end, if you can avoid any hassle and for the sake of a couple hundred more no insurance woes etc its def worth it.
