Gday mates wondering what u all think of the different service stations and the fuel quality they rip us all off with?????????
Shell Optimax
BP Ultimate
Caltex
Mobil
I normally use Shell Optimax and roughly get 400kms 500km a tank on a VU SS no dramas
I filled up with a BP Ultimate 1st time in years and did 100kms distance round trip mostly 80kms-100kms hr on M4 to Blacktown and back to Terry Hills and the BP Ultimate fuel is just above half tank, the car is running like a gutless wonder boggin down, pingin at lower revs. That fuel was so diluted down it was not funny i went back to servo and told the indian what kind of crap was he sellin and gave him a mouthful!!!!!:flipoff::vpo::flipoff:
Whats all your opinions????????????????

1. Mobil, BP, Caltex 98
2. Shell V Power
3. Mobil, BP, Caltex E10
4. Mobil, BP, Caltex95
Never use 91
Hi all,
I live in Sydney and there's a Shell refinery here so I'm fairly sure I am buying Shell V-Power. As there's a Caltex refinery in Sydney, I'm reasonably sure that I am buying Caltex when I shop at their outlets in Sydney.
As far as I am aware, there is no BP refinery in Sydney. What am I buying when I buy BP in Sydney? Do they ship BP Ultimate in from a BP refinery or does BP buy fuel from the Shell or Caltex refineries? Ditto for Mobil.
If I can’t answer these questions with a degree of certainty, it’s difficult to answer the question.
I can say that I think my fuel economy improves when I use Shell V-Power. Somewhere around 1.5 L / 100 km’s. I’ve seen this improvement when I used V-Power in the VY SV8 and also now in my FG XR6T.
The Commodore PCM has two spark advance tables. One for good quality fuel (98 RON etc) and one for fuels down to 91 RON. If your car pings on one brand on PULP but not another, WHY? If pinging starts, the knock sensors and PCM should swap straight to the 91 RON spark advance table to protect your engine. I had a Chipmaster Mail Order Tune in my SV8 and never heard it ping once. The Chipmaster tune also helped fuel economy and was money well spent.

Tried them all even when Shell Vpower racing was around and BP Ultimate was the best for me.

As PD said, there are plenty of threads around discussing the merits of various fuels. From my reading of them over 5+ years I'd say in order members of the forum tend to use 98 fuels in the following order: BP Ultimate, Caltex Vortex 98, Mobil 8000 and Shell Opticrap which many people feel lives up to its name.
I usually use Ultimate and have never had a problem, occasionally use Vortex 98 and can't pick any difference, never used Mobil 8000 AFAIK and last used Opticrap 5+ years ago as Shell was the closest petrol station to home and believing the advertising thought it must be good....... :weirdo:
Got on to this forum, read the comments of others on fuels, changed to Ultimate and have never looked back.

There are already many many existing threads discussing fuel comparisons
