Hey all,

After writing my VTII SS off when a young lass pulled out infront of me I've purchased a VTII Clubsport. Am looking into getting some form of Cold Air Induction. Have heard mixed things from friends. One of my mates bought a Growler Kit for his VY SS, sounds good... he says it goes a little better. Another friend thinks they aren't so good and an Over The Radiator CAI is much more beneficial. So just wondering what the general consensus is here? Also best places in QLD to purchase/ have the work done.

Cheers :)

Not all of them need MAFLESS tunes. But its certainly the way to go.

Give the SS Reductions crap a miss. They are absolute poo.

Tune is $1,200 for my VE and the OTR was $670.....I went SS OTR and I am very happy...great sound and power 25 rwkw.....car is loads better under full gas.

Take a look at some sponsors sites....give them a call...."Hi torque" down the coast are great.

You paid $1200 for a tune I thought they stopped charging that much you should be able to get an otr and tune for that.

cheers

I would say the OTRCAI is they way to go if your got the money to spend but if money is tight then a SS Growler is ok. Anything is better than stock:)

An OTR would be way to go, not that much more than a growler. As far as workshops go, theres Mr Muffler/BEST performance or Powertorque as well. Give them a ring and see what they can do :goodjob:

+1 for OTR, heard nothing but good things about them, and mafless tune, well that speaks for itself :P

Also after the same thing OTR and mafless, and also interested in some recommedations on standard pricing. The only price i have got so far is powertorque which was $1600 (yes actuallually called and was quoted this) so i sort of gave up on that idea pretty quick :spew:

Give Oztrack a ring he is a forum sponsor and does a pretty good deal on a mailorder tune and Otr I believe.

Had ss big mouth kit on mine then flicked it for a otr and mafless, made a big difference.Just depends on dollars you have to spend. SS induction kit say $500 - $600 then fit it yourself no tune. Otr and tune $1400 - $1600 fitted and tuned.I personally think the tune is where the main gains are made. Give James at "BEST Performance" a ring (in the same building as Mr Muffler) out at sumner park.If you live on the north side ring "Power Torque". Just my view but if you plan on more mods in the future go the otr will save you $$$$ inthe long run.

OTR & Mafless tune, i was told not to get a aluminum one as they could warp and that a plastic one was the way to go, but i ended up as with a aluminum one, wouldnt be without it.

I went a different direction and got the Harrop CAI mainly because the final products look stock and was told thereis only a couple of kws diff between it and an OTR? What do you guys reckon?

Cheers

P.S. Who's going to the Dyno day tomorrow?

Looking for a stock looking CAI for a VZ Clubsport. SS induction growler is the only one i can find. (Harrop CAI only for VE). Havn't read any good reviews on the growler and was wondering if anyone new of something better that isn't OTR.

OK great thread thanks.
I've read these forums for a few months now, and have two questions I can't find answers for:

On a daily driver that is going to be doing mostly highway and not planning to do any strip work.

1. MAFless Tune - I get the feeling this mainly if you're going to run the car over the qtr, and spend time in high revs.
On a daily driver, would you go MAFless or leave the MAF in?

2. OTRCAI - How much does this change the intake note of the car 2% or 40%?
Does it increase any constant 'droning' noise on the highway, or just intake growl during acceleration?

Thanks very much to anyone who can help with these questions.

DUS OTR is probably the best looking OEM spec one on the market mate

1. up to you mate but IMO go Mafless, i just got it done on mine picked up power and torque across the whole rpm range. Do a search there is a Maf vs Mafless thread on here somehere

2. errr the drone comes from your exhaust mate. The OTR sounds horn under acceleration really snorts, its nice if thats what your chasing.

On VT to VY LS1 we do OTR and Dyno Tune for less than $1200. Its the Duspeed one which is very popular.

I know the EXHAUST drone comes from the exhaust, I was wondering about the OTRCAI. Does it increase noise (of any kind - growl, drone, air sucking noise) constantly, or just while accelerating?

I'm definately happy for it to sound louder under acceleration, but dont want to listen to it rattling away for 3 hours a day on cruise control on the highway at 110km/h.

ah ok mate sorry misunderstood, nah i haven't notice any change in noise when cruising, only when you boot it.

Wow!!1200 for just the tune?I think thats a bit pricey just for the tune. there are whole packages as in OTRCAI + MAFless tunes going for around that price.

Basically if you floor it then you will here an awesome growl induction noise but if your highway cruising it wont make much noise at all. I just got the OTRCAI + MAFless tune done from my stock as VYII SS M6.Stock was 208.2 RWKW after the tune +fitting of OTR 226.8 RWKW. Keep in ind i have stock everything. Thats almost a 20 RWKW increase just from induction and the sound when you put your foot down hard is insane.Cant wait to get my exhaust next. But if your wanting to get the growler SS reductions as its mostley called on this forum then you wont get much of an increase in power. Basically like everything mate you get what you pay for!!:)

Thanks for the replies guys.
I'm not looking for noise, I'm looking to avoid extra noise. So dont like the sound of a growler!

I want the extra power and economy from a OTRCAI, just dont want to pay for it with a large increase in noise, as it is a daily driver and want to keep the smoothness and refinement the Senator starts with.

On a 3 day countdown, picking it up on Thursday or Friday!
Oh BTW - warranty - I assume an OTR kills your warranty for the whole engine? But what about just a Tune, will that void the warranty?
Thanks for the answers

Who does a good OTRCAI system for the VZ Monaro? Someone was saying that the bonnet makes fitting a OTR difficult. Was he right and if so is the growler the best alternative CAI?
