Hi all

Just bought my 1st holden!!
Its a VXII Calais with the obvious ls1.
Now when the car is cold, there is a tapping knocking noise for a few mins, then its gone?

I have always owned falcons,so im a virgin on these motors. I have read this is the norm. Is there any real fix for this?? Will this eventually destroy my engine?
BTW engine only has 106,000

Cheers Frank

Sounds like slap to me.

No it won't destroy your engine - at well over 100K if it was going to it would have done so already

All cars slap to some degree. Go sit next to a cold forged motor on startup and tell me then if yours is worse.

can't tell with that little info

its either that or lifter noise

don't worry about it yet until it gets worse, could be fine for years like that.

maybe try a different oil or just change it, oils seem to make a difference, and are different for each ls1. just need to find the quietest one for yours

The LS1 is an alloy motor which is naturally noiser than what your used to with the falcones.
The main thing to look at is whether it consumes oil under normal use.
No i do not beleive it will destroy your engine, the car has done 106,000 and its not destroyed itself.
Also different oils will alter the cold start up noise.

Ok thanks for all input guys. Im gunna put it in for a full service next week. So hopefully that will help a bit. Anyone recommend a place around western sydney to get the service done with good ls1 knowledge?
Cant wait to get the mods started on this baby!!
