just wondering can anyone tell me what is the best brand of car battery you can buy today? I am after something around about 500-550 CCA's. Also, in north Brisbane does anyone know a good place to purchase this battery for a fair price? (Petrie Caboolture area)
Thanks
Aren't the Optima's the best you can get?

I have had several optimas in cars and boats, good battery but at 5yrs old mine died. Both car and boat died within about 1 week of each other, what a coincidence. BTW they where 900cca but but before dying they worked well.

Yes I might get my hands on one of these Optima's for the monaro and use the monaro battery to replace the dead commodore battery.

Having bought an Optima Red Top recently I can confirm they are great performers, not sure how long they last as it's far too soon to say.
For a much cheaper option that does the job, I've had a good run with an Exide 550 in the past.
Century battery also good. Model 68VT from memory.

I've got an Exide Orbital Blue and it's been perfect for years. Extra set of screw terminals come in handy as well :)

Yes Both Exide and Century have been recommended to me. Its just a case of there are so many other brands floating around today you don't know what the get. The Exide 550 with the handle and the green, black condition indicator are fairly good as my mate has one and he told me its in its 4th year and still going strong.
The trouble with batteries today is how old is the battery before you buy it? 1 months, 2 months, 3 months, or lots older and if this is the case you would think this alone would effect the time you have it in use.

Just replaced the battery in the Monaro with an Exide 550 model. The original battery lasted almost exactly 5 years to the day. I managed to squeeze an extra 6 months or so out of it by making sure I turned off the radio & climate control before switching the car off - otherwise it was starting to struggle when starting (especially with the colder weather setting in).
I usually get around 5 years out of my batteries - can't understand some of you blokes only getting a couple of years ???????
