Would like to hear from anyone who has bought or sold a ss ute(VU-VZ) recently. Thinking about upgrading the old XG ute. So thought I would see what peoples thoughts are on the market at the moment. I've been looking on carsales etc, saw some nice VYs for about 25 and VZs for around 30. Are people being optionistic? Or is that what I should expect. Thanks

A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. My old man sold sold his vy ss (50kays, cam, brakes, clutch, 3.9s, wheels, springs, everything done etc) for 28.5k 18+months ago which we thought was good buying and good selling. Hard to compare now, but the popularity of v8 holden utes is pretty high still even now, and it is hard to find decent clean examples, but high teens or low 20's should be pulling these model of utes up. I wouldn't be surprised if you can pick up VE's for around the 30 mark if you are prepared to bargain hard etc.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I thought the prices I was seeing on the web and in yards seemed a bit optionistic. Definitely not in any hurry, still not sure what I'm to going yet. Just take my time and see what happens.

Thats an awesome price to sell vz ss thunder for I just got new ss ve with couple options for 36k drive away business rego so I bet that guy is feeling bad now eh? You have to shop around as I seen a couple of ssv sedans selling from 33 to 38 the other day so I am sure you wouldnt pay any more than 18 to 22 for vy or vz with a few kms

there is a big variation in ute prices - but the condition and kms vary much more than sedans too . i have seen SS utes used on site which have been flogged far more than you would ever think and there are others which are weekend cars and near mint . You dont see as much variation of condition in sedans so buyer beware .

I bought my VZ SS ute for 25k in November, no mods only lowered a bit. Had a bit over 36000ks, no tow ball in mint condition. I was looking for a white one, with very low ks for about 3 - 4 months, and I still think I should have waited longer... I'm still happy none the less.
Tip: Buy private, unless you can really screw the car salesman.
Goodluck.

i paid 25k drive away for a VU2 Maloo R8 in feb, 92k on the clock, got it from a dealer, 3 yr warranty, 12 months reg, extras, one owner, FSH. Few mods cat back and lowered. Leather coulsons. Pretty happy with it. I went maloo instead of SS cos i found insurance was cheaper and you've already got those upgrades like brakes etc so mods aren's as significant, depends how far you want to go though. And plus its a HSV, you say SS ute ppl are like oh yer cool, say maloo ppl say **** what a mad **** hahahaha
Cheers

2002 Holden Special Vehicles Maloo R8 VU II
Valuation Prices
* Private Price Guide $20,200 - $22,900
* Trade In Price Guide $15,300 - $18,000

Yer just as much sense as someone fitting a HSV front from different model to their SS
You dont beleive me... SS (same year) with no mods was 300 more a year and when i did want any mods it sky rocketed. Plus that was market value (**** all), now i have agreed on maloo at 28k for less premium. :goodjob:
What was the average km for those prices? And so i paid 25 drive away so less stamp duty thats 23 something for the car, not far off those private prices. Again :goodjob:
Have read fine print thanks. And no its not the holden certified one.

Just had a quick look on Carpoint.com.au and there are heaps of VY SS and VZ SS for $25k.
Just searched for Holden Utes - $17k - $25k.
The same for HSV Maloos, there are a few sweet Y series R8's on there for under $25k.

I've been Looking at 06 VZ Thunders. a few nice M6 6L ones around with lower than average Km's(under 50,000). prices asked are a fairly high tho' with most asking a $3k premium over redbook price guide. I reckon I'll find one for my $26k budget, I've got time on my side.
06 M6 6.0L Thunder SS
Private Price Guide $28,200 - $31,100
Trade In Price Guide $22,500 - $25,400
Average Km 60,000 - 90,000
Lots of VY to VZ's in the Sub $25k price range but most have been listed for a long time. Can't believe the number of ads with no Pictures....do they think it will help?:1peek:

Some new vs second hand prices are a little strange at the moment due to demand, I purchased a new SSV ute before chrissy and bought it damn cheap ,returned it to the dealer to rectify a little waranty issue and was offered 7k more than what I paid to buy it back as they can't get new or used stock!

They're out there if your prepared to wait for what you want at the right price. the trick is figuring out what is the right price. There are heaps that fit your description, just a matter of taking your pick. We decided to look at cars with half or less KM's than yours. and found a point where sub 50,000km VY SII and VZ LS1's were line ball on price at about $23-24K. Have since decided to wait for a 06 model VZ thunder to come into our $26K budget. have a couple of irons in the fire at the moment.

Have seen some asking near VE SS list price for 07 VZ thunders:1peek:.
MY father in law just picked up his VE SS M6 a few weekends back. ordered it way back in nov 08 on the run out deals....but they couldn't supply the colour he wanted....so, Back then, they were keen to keep the sale and promised him a new 09 model.....took them a while to get it for him, I think because the demand turned around they were trying to deliberately d!ck him about to get him to pull out of the deal. i think he did alright on the deal. Paid '08 run out price and got an '09 with extras of leather, tint, rear parking sensors, lock nut and floor mats. had a '04 VY S 5.7 M6 farm ute trade with 140,000km and got 17k trade. the dills have it up for sale now but have failed to notice the 15,000 extra km's on it since they assessed it. I know they must had the buffer on it for a fair while too! covered in scratches and knocks from daily farm use and country km's

Over here in WA, about 15 months back i paid 33 for a vy2. Call me nuts, but i could not find one with new car warranty, less than 30km with leather, lid, Factory rims, Climate etc M6. Looked for 3 months, when i saw one with what i wanted, i just bought it, couldn;t give 2 shits on price at the time (now regretting haha)
Cars similar are selling for 27-29 currently ere

Now I am spewin at seeing that but all things considered I am one of those guys that when I want something IT MUST BE NOW! I have tried to wait until the right "one" comes along and think F**K that just get what I want now and do some ot it will be ok. Dealers love me. HaHa LOL! At least I am happy.

Manuals seem to be much more in demand than autos, while this might not affect the advertised price, i found that guys selling manuals (privately) are much less willing to budge on price as they were getting alot more interest.
If you want it modified, try and buy one with as much stuff as possible already done, in particular stuff like hardlids cause these are really expensive. Also engine work, ive spend $8k on the usual mods on my VY SS ute and i would still get less for it today than i bought it for last year (85000km $25000, suspension, hardlid, tray liner, tow bar, wheels, and it was owned by a detailer so body is perfect).
If you buy from a dealer make sure you have a look in manuals and stuff to see who the car was registered to. I test drove for a dodgy dealer who said it had never been used as a tradey car, however when i looked at the log book the original owner was a Granite and Slate company!

Found a couple of VE SS M6 New driveaway @ $36k even still. I might wait for the end of financial Year runouts to see if a screamer deal pops up.
Found a couple of VE SS M6's in WA listed below $30k with low KMs. One was a '08 model, had 13,000kms and nice set of Koya 20's for $26.5K!!!! it didn't last long.:bawl: by the time I fly over there, and put it on transport back I'd be out another $2.5K.....worth it for the right deal, but a bit of a PITA. Could always make a holiday of it and drive the 4,400kms home:confused:

So, whats the general consensus now with the VU / VY SS ute models - are the values staying stable, or going down more? or picking back up.
I just recently traded in my 07 VZ SS thunder for $23000 with 44000kms. Not a great price but dealer reckons there hard to move with ve ss being pretty cheap plus got a good deal on a new maloo

A dealer would say that to you the seller. But walk in to yard as the buyer and the same dealer will tell we just cant get enough of them, you better decide now as I have another buyer coming this afternoon.
