Last night as some may be aware, a few of us went out to Willowbank and did a few runs in some pretty decent conditions. For us here in QLD, decent conditions meant 18Degs and 70% humidity. There are many, many people looking forward to the middle of winter to try to get a good time in the bag.

OT slightly, for those that have asked me or are just curious to know about my time last night, heres the facts.

I ran a 12.95@107.42 mph on my every day street tyres, Falken ZE326's. I have a 2600rpm converter and all the usual bolt ons on an unopened motor. The important bit to remember is that this was with my normal everyday tune that I drive to work with. It is a normal MAF tune that Mark from Power Torque has done the work on, and it does the job well.

Back on topic, I assume that the southern states have the above weather conditions a lot earlier than us and I was wondering if there are any things to watch out for in very cold conditions at the drags?? Does a very cold track hamper track times hugely or is it just a bit annoying rather than a waste of time?? If anyone from down south can pass on any info on drag racing in cold weather that would be appreciated.

I know a warm track has better traction than a cold track so Willowbank in winter should be good some heat from the Qld winter sun and nice cold night air to make Horse Power.

Cold dry air is GOOOD

looking forward to trying out a convertor myself , BTW what where your brakdown of times ???

Convertor should help by about 0.3 in the 60" at least

I don't have the time slip with me atm but I did a 1.9 something 60'. I have done a 1.8 something 60' with slicks on, which I think would have been easily possible last night. My launches are not with any 'stalling' up of the converter at all due to excessive wheelspin. Trying to source some slicks in the next few weeks to see what that will do. All good fun and can't wait to see the new benchmark you set the rest of us.

I have heard that every tenth made on the 60' is 2 tenths made up by the end of the 1/4. Is that true or just a rule of thumb that isn't accurate???

I'll have to try to dig up some historical data on weather to see when the humidity drops up here. For once, I'm looking forward to winter bigtime.

Yeah....

Bring on the convertor... and we'll get a hose over there....get the humidy to 70 to 75% and air temp 20 deg. at night....

We're going to need a bit heater !!!

Not fair Koala Bear ?

summer over here isn't so flash either Mark....especially with the track so close to the sea. Regarly see the humidity in the 80+ at Kwinana...air density guage in the low 90s...that's if the sea breeze shows otherwise it is just hot air off the desert....What do the Queenslanders say to me when they come over? "This is a hot c$%^ of a joint." I just tell them you get used to it.

Willowbank in winter:dance: see you soon...

Willowbank in January...who dumb idea was that?:stupid: :spew:

Track so close to the sea.....

Come On !!!!

You know how much fuel the locals from here have to put in when they go there...

Just look at the times and the amount of engines that get torched.

settle down...I didn't say EVERY night was a dud....

We do get some excellent conditions too!! Have seen it as low as 26% humidity and 1200' corrected on the best of nights. Have also seen a hell of a lot worse too.

Have been at Willowbank at 900' BELOW:shock: 38% Hum. at the Winters....I couldn't make the thing go down the track!!! Too much power-too much clutch!!!!!!

Torched engines? That's what jets are for:shock:

edit; just checked the run sheets- -250'. Sorry for the exageration. :stupid: .

OK

We'll all take a deep breath now and pray to the dear Lord for 25% and 18 deg. every time the light goes green.

I was starting to get one of those bad feelings people get when they start a thread which quickly goes to pot. But looks all safe for the time being.

As a matter of interest, is there a drag strip in Tasmania??? That might solve all our humidity and temperature problems.

Might get along to the winternationals and see how it's all done.

Yes Tassie has a track, I think it's only 8th mile tho (it's a small place).

Don't know if you have ever noticed tho Paul...it's always raining down there.:shiner:
