I know this is a really dumb question, but I can't seem to find my original registration paperwork, and a brief search of the engine bay failed to find any obvious evidence of an engine number. Can anyone tell me where to find it? I need to transfer my car to VIC registration and they charge extra if you don't provide the engine number up front...

stamped on plate in engine bay?
or
on rego sticker?
or
go and see the dealer you purchased it from?

It's located on the drivers side, front of the engine, to the front of the cylinder head. It's a bit of a pain to see on VE's as the heater hoses and a wiring loom run over the top of it.

It's not on the compliance plate, not printed on the QLD rego sticker, and I can't see the selling dealer because they're in Robina and I'm in Melbourne :P

I located a number under the heater hoses and near a wiring loom... does this sound like the one?

My mechanic could not find the engine number when he was doing the RW for my VE to be changed from NSW to VIC reg..after a lot of searching he rang someone at the local holden dealership and was told the Engine number is underneath and can only be seen by putting the car on a hoist..
He didnt do this as the car wasnt going over the pits at Vic roads and I had the number on other paper work...so... is the number you found really the right one?...hope so cos putting it underneather seems weird to me..
