today I finally got see my father-in-law's Mk VII Jag up close and personal. It has been in storage and his garage for the last twenty years or so.
Built in 1953 and features oak door trims and a cigarette lighter for the rear seat passengers.
can't wait to drive it one day. needs a bit of work though.

It'll look fabulous once restored. As to the oldest car I've seen, the guy who owns the factory across from mine has a steam driven "car". Heard it chugging along this morning and will get round to asking what make/age it is.

Probably the oldest Ive seen close, touched, and driven was a 1963 Toyota Toyoace light truck.
It was my paddock vehicle between 1999 - 2002 and was the vehicle I learnt to drive in. (although 1st ever car I drove was an 85 Rodeo) Continually lapping the 10 acre property we have.
4 speed collumn shift, and 1200cc four cyl engine. No tray on it. Just the cab chassis.
Sold it in 2002. Sort of regret that now because it would've been a worthy restorer. Plus they are rare. Its been the only one Ive ever seen. Ive got no pics of it. But heres the same model I found searching the net.

Good luck with your Jag restoration, Goggles. It will look nice, and probably be worth a bit once its done up.

The Fleetwood "town car" was the limousine of its day. Running a 101 kw 346ci V8 with a 3spd manual.
Apparently its one of only 3 in the country.

Mark VII eh? The first Jag to use the DOHC six, and that motor stayed in production till the XJ40 in 1987 I think.....or it might have been still used in the DS420 limos for a while longer, but not sure.
Stick a set of D-type cams in and triple Webers on it! :D
Beautiful old car, those Jags.

i saw a model A ford on a truck in original condition being taken over to one of the islands
the curent owner had grown up on the island and bought it off the original owner 30 years ago where it had been kept in a shed (the owner was 90 odd)
he took it off the island put it in his own shed waiting till he had time to restore it
and was taking it back to the island to do that

That is way cool.
Oldest car I have been up close and personal with is an Australian-body Model T Ford.
Bloody thing had a lever on the dash to adjust the dizzy while on the fly
The oldest for me (that I can think of) is my mates 34 Ford. It's an original, not one of the fibreglass knock offs you see these days. Ironically it has a Chev V8 in it...
These photos were taken in April 2000 at a Hot Rod Show in Cleveland.

As you can see it even had the old Victor Bray Flat Black paint.

If you ever want to feel what it's like to drive in one of these, just completely weld up your suspension and you'll have a pretty good indication. :)

when I was a kid there was a little girl who I used to play with around the corner from my house.I went with her and her old man and he had bought an old chev pickup , around 1927 I think. It was still a runner and we rode back in it to their house. Had no indicators but had a hand on a lever which was used when turning or stopping . He restored it. and it was like a fire engine florescent orange with maroon guards and timber tray . Her dad was a car salesman at Kevin James motors. Those old enough to remember , thats where Brian Gardiner is now and Gardiner took over the building before flattening it to build what it is today . Her old man worked for him for a very short while and some may have seen the old chev displayed where the hsv building is there many years ago

Dads show winning 1944 Jeep. 100% original except for it being converted to 12 volt. Still gets taken off road when time permits. There wouldn't be very many stock 4x4's out there that will get close to it in the bush.
It's not the oldest i've seen or been in but the only one i've got a pic of.

The oldest car Ive ever been in would be a mate's 1938 Singer wagon. Front window levers out at the bottom on a winder mechanism!!!And the rear doors are suicide doors. Wicked. Also has a massive front grill (about 1.5m tall with twin frog eye headlamps). Im hoping to get hold of a body to build a chassis around. One unique looking ride. An L98 conversion wouldn't be too difficult

not me restoring it. my father-in-law is doing that. he just borrowed our Patrol to tow it out of storage to my brother-in-law's place.
It will then be towed (again by the Patrol) down to Tassie where he now lives.
By then the car will have travelled around most of the south/west part of Aus.
it still has WA plates and rego sticker on it. my father-in-law got it from his parents and drove it to Melb. when he moved to Canberra (mid 80s), he drove it from Melb.
I think my wife was impressed by how well the Patrol coped with the extra weight (Jag is approx 1.7tonnes and the trailer is 1tonne).
